Really ... why spend so much on its Military then?

Lovely topic Oracle.

An idiotic country(goverment) which comes to mind is the RoC. Instead of pouring money in to the 'water shortage' problem(de-salination plants) it spends  millions on arms. For what purpose? To defend itself from what? Turkey? You are joking.

SO are you saying
1) We shouldn't defend ourselves form turkey cause its hopeless, we don't stand a chance?
OR
2) We shouldn't arm ourselves because we are in no danger from Turkey?

I sincerely believe that Cyprus is no longer in any more danger from Turkey than it is now. Turkey has achived its object. That is what needs to be dealt with and not warfare.

All that is needed is to sit down and negotiate how to remove the existing problem. Right.

In the meantime you can run out of water or sort that problem out.

Consider this... we can endure the water cuts but not another defenseless Turkish military invasion.

Wake up GR. Why are you such a war monger? You are so willing to shed blood, even for a noble cause as 'ridding yourself of an enemy. What I suggest, sit and talk and have 'meaningful ' negotiations.

With this attitude I might say you definitely have Spartan blood in you. I would have added a sprinkling of Alexander the Greats Macedonians, but knowing you hate the guy I will not insult you.

Deniz, some people believed Turkey was done with Cyprus after the first invasion of 74, but they were wrong. What if Erdogan is overthrown, the Generals take over and double the Turkish troops in Cyprus. It may sound far fetched, but it's possible. And that's enough for Cyprus to be prepared

As anyone who's done the army already knows, the Turkish troops in the north of the island are in an attack formation while our fomation is one of defense. This is clear by the obvious positioning of the artillery units of the occupation army, they are positioned ahead of the rest of the units.

.....and pigs may fly. No way. Turkey needs all its forces to sort out their own probs within their borders. What do YOU think Turkeys aims would be to send more troops to Cyprus? This is unrealistic.

Sounds like the the 16th and 17th Century cry of Europeans 'The Turks are coming'. The threat is there may be but it will never happen DT. The positioning of the forces has not changed much since 1974.

Ok, Turkey would not dare invade a EU member state. I know you all think (including some TCs) that Turkey is run by idiots, but they are not that stupid.
