Turkey bans Google Groups
The latest in a string of online bans in Turkey has seen a sub-domain of global search engine Google the most recent victim.

When users in Turkey attempt to access groups.google.com they see this announcement: “Access to this site has been suspended in accordance with decision no: 2008/15 of T.C. Silivri 2nd Civil Court of First Instance.”
Google Groups, a sub-domain of search engine giant Google, was blocked by the order of a court in western Turkey. The page says the court decision was taken on March 14, but no explanation for the ban was listed. Google Groups is a cost-free usenet service provided by Google that allows users to share news and mail. Users can find groups according to their interests and share ideas in mails which can be seen by all group members. People can also establish their own groups in the system.

Experts say users can overcome the ban by following some simple steps. Turkey in March blocked access to the popular video-sharing Web site YouTube in response to a video clip allegedly insulting the country’s founding father. After YouTube removed several video clips deemed insulting to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and requested Turkish authorities to grant access to the video-sharing Web site, access to the site was restored at the end of March.

Don't mix this bastard of an Islamic government with Turkish democracy, and people wonder why the army is essential in Turkey, well here you go this is exactly why, because the majority votes for such idiots!

Long live democracy!

But Shah, the majority voted for the Islamic Government. That is the whole meaning of democracy. A government democratically elected by the majority of voters. :?

Being a majority does not entitle anyone to bend the rules. It is the cynical interpretation of democracy that leads to idiotic steps like banning criticism of Mustafa Kemal as if he were a saint. Funny thing is they never react when other historic figures are insulted.

If anything this ban will make people curious to click on the videos to see exactly what was said, ie there is no bad publicity.

I have no issue for them to ban criticising Mustafa Kemal, because you will find that 90% of the time it is either the religious wankers who cannot get their own perverted religious way in this country or the separatist who support terrorists. Other than that no one else seems to have a problem with Ataturk nor feels the need to criticise him, i mean whats there to criticise, if it wasn't for him there would be NO Turkey and we would all be Greek by now, or part of some other morally corrupt EU vulture.

When boiled down most things he said were nothing more than a wish for a modern Turkey that would play a good role for all humanity amongst other countries, and he wished for world peace, that's pretty much it.

Also i believe only 45% voted for that idiot because they are also idiots.

Majority of Turkey is made up of poor, uneducated, religious and backward idiots and that's a fact, so what can we expect from democracy in this country? AKP is a good example.

Pulling that pricks plug might be a painful move for Turkey but i cannot really say i disagree with it.
