Birtish Airways rip off

Postby craigbeck » Fri Apr 11, 2008 5:40 pm

I just tried to book flights from London to Larnaca in half term week in October with British Airways. How can they justify £2900.00 !!!!!

Has anyone heard of any new low cost airlines entering the market because tourism is going to die if BA has anything to do with it.

Crazy... no cheapies i'm afraid. Low cost airlines ie: Ryan Air have told Cyprus to bugger off unless it reduces passenger duties on entering Cyprus. Cyprus says no Ryan Air says up yours.
Easy Jet fly but they are not cheap, nobody is.

Ryan Air is more than welcome to commence flights to Larnaca. They just have to pay the landing fees and terminal charges. They could simply add this cost burden to the ticket.

It is very expensive building new terminals at Pafos and Larnaca.

It is passenger duty that their owner finds rediculous. Isn't it one of the most expensive in the world ? (don't quote me). I listened to the owner on the radio a month or so back and he was fuming at the prices. He was guaranteeing 75,000 customers a year, and was still refused.
Adding the cost to a ticket reduces their attractive priceing, which was an average of £150.00 return, in peak season.

150 return is not that much when added to an already cheap airfare. Ryan Air will still be the cheapest airfare available.

And yes, I have also read that Cypriot Airports are amongst the most expensive in the world. But, Hermes need to pay for the Pafos and Larnaca development.

The issue is that if Hermes and the Cyprus Government yield to the demands of Ryan Air, then the precedance is set for all the other airlines that fly to Cyprus. It is just not worth it.

Yeah, stuff BA. We mainly go with Cyprus Airways. Very good service and a decent enough price. Have flights booked for weeks that use both of the next bank holidays (one flying on the actual bank holiday day), and prices are only around £250GBP PP all in (inc return). Not bad. Plus you get a meal of course (Thomon cook can be cheaper but buy your own meal, plus is Gatwick when Heathrow is only half an hour away for us).

Of course that is all mainly super economy (if you can get them). Perhaps the BA site has automatically put you on business or even first class? Cyprus Airways used to do this, but their new site is a lot better, showing exactly what classes are available and at what price, for both out and return.

Cheers

Is it a private jet, or did you add an extra zero?
