"Technically, I don't think any Cypriot has ever been Greek as Cyprus has never been ruled by Greece "
Like Turkey, and other nations, Greece was established recently. And yes, modern Greece has not ruled Cyprus, in the same way it did not rule Athensm so we can logically say that Greeks have never been Greek, which is total nonsense. The thought process is interesting, until you start referring to the Byzantine Empire, which lasted one thousand years and was a Greek Empire and ruled both Greece and Cyprus. End of story.
As for presence in the easter Mediterranean, I will quote the former Turkish ambassador to Greece while he was being interviewed by journalist Michalopoulos:
"I do not want to go back to 1200 and those times. We were not around back then. I am referring to the times when the Turks arrived in this area......" I am guessing the ambassador is more knowledgeable than people like Shah and Eric, and he knows he does not have to justify his presence so he does not resort to bullshit.
Trying to establish a historical foot print leads to nonsense like changing place names and fining people for speaking Greek, as did Denktash.
TCs are Cypriots and that is that. But are they happy with being Cypriot? That is what is not clear judging from some posts here.
