Do you know about what denkatas talks about a decision taken by the National Council that calls fro Enosis that has up to now never been revoked or taken back at any point?

GC's like to talk about the TRNC being a dodgy setup, but when we look south we see a country with people that use the flag Greece everywhere and sing the Greek national anthem. So it's weird to talk about a common national identity, for someone like myself who has not lived through the old days it's very vague. I remember last year I was in Germany with some fellow GC's and a german girl found it very odd that we were Cypriots but spoke between each other in english, she was asking the same questions over and over again.

All this made me remember a program on PIK called biz ( us ) they were interviewing a TC that had left his villlage in 74 and he was talking about the events before leaving his village to head to the north. A GC man who was best mates with his father asked him to stay behind, the TC guy responds as to what he would do alone in the village without any of his relatives then asks he GC a question that goes " If I was to stay I would need to marry a GC girl, would you as a father hand your daughter to me for marriage? " and the GC guy responds to hims as "No" . What I mean to say is that whatever happens there will always be barriers between TC's and GC's , in my opinion instead of ignoring it both sides should learn to respect and embrace the difference as a fruit of the common identity of being Cypriot.

Umit when you are right you are right...the problem is mother countries slogan...get rid of them embrace Cypriotism as a whole and three quarters of the problem will vanish...

As long as we as Cypriots insist on Greek this and Turkish that we are bitches to the motherlands...

Personally I don't and I ain't anyones bitch...

Boomers,
Gday mate, i cant speak for GC but TC culture, language, food, heritage, religion is Turkish, TC are Turkish and 99% of TC dont and will not turn their back on this. Hence you have an issue of 2 very different cultures living on the same island and the majority dictating to the monority who their loyalites should lie with. Regardless of how many times Tc are told you are not turk's you are cypriots, at the end of the day we are turks and nothing will change that. Any negotiations which try and alter this is doomed to fail.

Al...I hope the beers went down well yesterday...I am not sure how old you are but as a parent here in Melbourne I can assure you that my kids along with Turkish migrant kids this ain't the case...

The kids of today are different of yesterday...I do a lot of business with crazy John and I deal everyday with Turkish migrants such as my self and I can assure you that our mentality, outlook is the same...We don't have problems we all along eat dinner together, discuss everything openly...Accept each other...As parents we all see that our kids culture is quite different from us, the oldies  ...They are skips...they don't give a continental about motherland bullshit...Ofcource there are some exceptions such as the morons of the Herllas club and I am sure there are some exceptions on the Turkish side...but these people are miniscule comparing to the actual imigrant population...

The difference here is the brainwashing that goes on behind the scenes...I have experience a lot of predjudice and racism here in OZ back in the seventies were you couldn't speak your own language in public...eating salami, drinking wine ect...All this changed through education...of the skips  ...coz we still eat salami and drink wine...

And this with first generation...3rd generation it will be gone...

Why then can the people of Cyprus feel the same?

Mate we are breeding skips...and there is nothing wrong with that...as long as they turn out on the decsend side everything will be ok...No flag or rhetoric will make any difference...Why not let the tcs and gcs breed just Cypriots?...gotta start somewhere, right?

As you know we live in an open transparent society here in OZ...Yesterday I asked a simple question as to who is a turk...I don't consider this a taboo question...and not a trolling question coz if I wanted to trol I could have done a bonza of a job...and mate can you fucking believe that noses got out of joint?...what the fuck...can you imagine the same happening here in OZ?...just to be fair I will ask the same question to the people at crazy john and see whta they say...I doubt it will raise any eyebrows...

This is what I am talking about brainwashing...where a simple question is a no area...and why is that...The answer is edudation ofr starters and it starts from home...

The beers were beaut, hit the spot nicely. I understand where you're coming from, in terms of 3rd gen aussies, australia is different though. its true that the next generations in Oz will be ozzie an nothing else, and will probably be some of the most educated and intelligent people in the world. The main issue is we are talking about Cyprus, not Australia. Oz doesnt have the history of Cyrpus, the conflicts and the culture. Cyprus basically has 2 very strong and different cultures which people do not want to let go of nor should they be forced to. The beauty of Australia is that its basically just over 200 years old (putting the aborigianls aside) and it does not have a dominant culture, its a mixture which blends nicely because we're a country of all sorts, hundreds of different cultures mixed into one, in a short space of time. We are lucky but like i say Cyprus is a completely different kettle of fish.

This is so hard to understand coming form OZ...the mentality of 15th century is unbelieveable
