What did GC's think of th North before the gats opened in 2003? I heard that many thought we were living very primative lifestyles. For example when the gates first opened TC's couldn't spend more than 24 hours in the south ( or they would be fined by TC police ) and GC's who stayed th night had to show hotel receipts now you can stay up to 3 months anywhere without having any trouble.

An impression from someone who is not a gc - I thought a small group of people were doing very well in the north but that most ordinary people were struggling (I wouldn't say "primitive lifestyles as Um feels above).

Bill on average I don't think it's much differnet from the south, most of the people struggling are settlers form Turkey. The bad thing in Cyprus is that there is abundance of people for the jobs, if there were less people from Turkey coming here on tourist visa's and not giong back the pays would be much higher for jobs in the private sector. This is abig reason why there are so many TC construction workers in the south a "tourist" from eastern Turkey ( mostly an arab or kurd ) does the same job for half price.

Well bill maybe it's the the best way I think that small steps need to be taken before giant leaps. You gotta put down a few chips before winning any.

I see we agree that it ain't gonna happen suddenly even ifit did that way there would be a lot of caos.

Got any ideas on the steps then?
Eg: Running the Nicosia airport together, increasing trade between both sides, running joint operations in the buffer zone

I dunno Um. Errh, tell you what, as a first step, I'll swop you the end of embargos and direct flights (under the RoC aviation body) in return for Famagusta.

What sorts of threats? A lotof people swear at you from time to time ( including me ) but that doesn't mean we are all out to get you!

I am no aviation expert but i think your Ercan/Tymbou airport can only be internationally OK under the official aviation authority of the Island (which is the RoC aviation authority). Anyway it's a very small point of difference.

As a little sweetener I'll also throw in a promise from all of your southern siblings that we will never call Mr Donktosh "Fatso" again.

I don't care what you call my cousin Denktash ( I've called him stuff way way worse than that, fatso is funny no problem with that ) . The problem is Bill that if we accepted that the RoC aviation body is the sole body then we would have accepted that the RoC in further steps is the sole gov. on the island which as you know don't accept on the other hand you guys feel it would be recognising the TRNC . What are ways of getting past this? This might be a topic to discuss
