But behind the Greek side of the wall there was always Greek Troops . Turkish Cypriot troops are 100 meters away the gate stationed . That area was always empty from the troops . They were doing their regular patrolling in the street before the gates opened . They were all fussing about to find excuse not the open gates . They had no choise , it was the only one way to give image to world .they are willing to ..... but they have to show the world ..... problem is Turkish Troops........
i can paste to many pictures where the Greek Troops stationed at Nicosia but what we can gain nothing . Important is Deniz , both side have to sit on the table and solve the Cyprus problem very soon . we have no time to wait another 30 years or more .
we have rights to know what will be future of our childrens . İ am not intersting about lolo los .....

Thank you for posting those photos,Halil...I was not anywhere near a tv set when Lokmaci opened...But what a pity the presence of the Greek and Turkish flags spoiled the pictures for me...Why couldn't we have had just Cyprus flags at this symbolically important gate, to signify our intention to create one united Cyprus run by Cypriots for Cypriots and anybody who loves Cyprus and wants to live in Cyprus... :( :(

AREA BETWEEN CITY WALLS AND DITCHES IN LEFKOSA WAS DECLARED AS A SPECIAL TOURISM AREA.(North Nicosia)
The Council of Ministers has decided to declare the area between City Walls and Ditches in Lefkosa as a `Special Tourism Area`.
The decision was taken at yesterday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The move came just days after the opening of the Lokmaci Gate in the heart of Lefkosa.(Nicosia)

According to the decision of the Council, environmental arrangements will be made, funds will be provided to artisans for the renovation of their shops, some roads will be closed for traffic and inspections will be increased in the area.

Mr Usar noted that arrangements will also be made to spread the display of prices in New Turkish Liras and Euro.
The Council also decided to set up a special committee for the coordination of all work to be carried out in the area.

Talat walks into Greek Cyprus via Ledra crossing

Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat has crossed over into the Greek Cypriot south of divided Nicosia (Lefkoşa) -- the first head of the Turkish Cypriot north to do so in more than three decades.

Image

Talat walked across the buffer zone that splits the capital at Ledra Street, a pedestrian shopping boulevard in Nicosia's mediaeval center. It was an impromptu private visit that elicited smatterings of applause from surprised Greek Cypriot shoppers.

"My message today is to convey my best wishes to Greek Cypriots," Talat said. "Sincerely, a solution to the Cyprus problem is something that we will achieve."
