COMMANDER OF TURKISH LAND FORCES GENERAL BAŞBUĞ WAS RECEIVED BY PRESIDENT TALAT
The Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Ilker Başbuğ has arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Soon after his arrival, the General was received by President Mehmet Ali Talat.
Speaking during the visit, President Talat said the elimination of security concerns and economic difficulties strengthened the position of the Turkish Cypriot people at a time when fresh efforts are being made to bring about a solution to the Cyprus problem.
The Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Ilker Başbuğ arrived in the TRNC this morning for a three day visit.
The General visited President Mehmet Ali Talat, Speaker of the Parliament Fatma Ekenoğlu and Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer soon after his arrival in the Republic.
Welcoming the General at the Presidential Palace, President Talat said that the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus has been playing a basic role in providing security to the Turkish Cypriot People.
Stressing that the Turkish Cypriot people has been enjoying peace since the Turkish peace operation in Cyprus, he said “the Turkish Cypriot people has experienced no security problems since 1974”.
General Başbuğ, for his part, said that the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus brought peace and security in 1974 not only to North Cyprus but to the whole island.
He stressed that the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus would continue to be by the side of the Turkish Cypriot People.
During his three way visit to the Republic, the General will have inspections at army units.
