I have to go along with CopperLine here. First of all, TC's and GC's can cross to either side with a form of an ID. Surely, a TC in police uniform is recognised as a TC, and if a TC or a GC in a police uniform wonders off slightly beyond their assigned positions, in the end they are Cypriots and Cypriots can go all over the island, once they are recognised as being Cypriots.

Now, if the suspicion was, that the police uniformed officers were not TC's but were in fact Turkish military, then I can understand the situation a little better. But since they were not, what's all the fuss.

After I wrote the above, I came across this this morning. It kind of backs up what I was saying about the TC's and GC's, that crossing over was not the problem, but rather it was the "police uniform" that caused the problem. I still think it was a very minor incident to be blown out of proportion.

Turkish Cypriot officer takes off uniform to return wallet to Greek Cypriot checkpoint

GREEK Cypriot police officers at the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint were astonished earlier this week when a Turkish Cypriot officer changed out of his uniform to return a wallet lost by a Greek Cypriot during a trip to the north. According to reports, the senior Turkish Cypriot officer arrived in plain clothes at the Greek Cypriot police checkpoint with his wife and asked them to return the wallet to its owner. It had been found in the north. It contained €250, two credit cards, a European insurance card and an identity card. The Greek Cypriot police thanked the Turkish Cypriot ‘second detective inspector’ and eventually located the owner of the wallet.

You shouldn't be. Snce I've moved back to this country I've heard the most absurd viewpoints on the Cyprus issue ranging from downright treasonous to fascist. I will not make assumptions anymore on where people draw the line.

Very nice deed there by the TC officer. He should be commended. Such selfless acts are rare in todays world. :D

Andreas Simou Angelides, a DIKO strongman and one of Papadopoulos's men, said today that Christofias accepted all the Turkish conditions in order to get Ledra to open. This statement followed Papadopoulos's son claim that Christofias gave "earth and water" to the Turks.

He is a selfish crook.

Its people like you that make me ashamed to say I am a cypriot. You should be ashamed of yourself bananiot, if it wasn't for your Gypsou connections I would say you were a Turk first and foremost.
