"Christofias accepted all the Turkish conditions"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I am sure there are certain elements that want to see Chrisofias fail and make a mess of things and say 'I told you so'.

It may even get a hell of lot messier on your side, 1974 comes to mind when the commies were defeated and thrown out.

However, the government as well as showing flexibility and good faith, it also needs this to be reciprocated by the other side. The Turkish army is still being militarily ofensive regarding the buffer zone.

WHoud that be because it doesn't matter if you elect an EOKA terrorist as or a commie as your leader your (GCs) agenda stays the same in that you want to be the sole rulers of the whole of Cyprus and us TCs as a minority with no say in our own country?:roll::rol::rol::rol:

I highlighted the issue of Strovilia in another thread where the buffer zone has been violated by the Turkish army since 2000 and the fact that the UN repeatedly mentions this violation in its UN resolutions every six months. The government therefore needs to also stand firm as well as being ameanable otherwise it loses credibility.

I somehow do not believe that a communist "government" has any credibility in a democratic EU and do not believe that I am alone in this belief.

Perhaps if Christofias was in Cyprus at the time he could have had a chat with Talat and everything would have been sorted quietly. I think in the end it was right to temprarily close the crossing point becasue it had the effect of focusing the minds of the UN and foreign diplomats that want to see the process move forward. Basically it has shown that NOBODY can be complacent and that everybody needs to keep their eye on the ball.

TPapadope and his henchmen aren't very happy to have lost to a communist so don't expect them to sit back and let the commies do what ever they want without TPapadope making life very, very uncomfortable for the commies. The junta might even rear it's ugly head again.

Well at least you got something right. We want to rule the whole Cyprus with you as a minority and you having no say in the running of the country. (you being certified loony bins.)

I'm going to start a "quiz" thread about Cyprus in the 60's Daft Twat, hope you and the rest of your commie comrades join me.

The whole idea is to keep Ledra street open. It was an uphill struggle to get it opened because, as Halil quite correctly pointed out, the nationalists from both sides did and are still doing everything in their (deminishing hopefully) power to keep the two communities apart. We, the tree-huggers (which by the way is a term used for the Greens, so it is miserably out of order here) will of course carry on until our vision is realised. We did it when the ambient environment rode high, we will not stop now.

"The whole idea is to keep Ledra street open."

Yes, but not at the expense of loosing our own dignity!

I think the incident at Ledra has focused the minds that have a keen interest in a solution (the UN, US and UK) and this needs to happen if we ever hope to reach an agreed solution. Nobody can afford to be complacent.

As I said before, it was probably a good thing that this happened because it has effectively backfired on the forces of non solution and reinforced those that want an agreed solution.

Mikkie, there are forces on both sides that want the road to close. The Turkish army for a start and certain circles within the "Foreign Ministry" I was told by some Turkish Cypriot friends. Denktas as well, you do not want me to tell you. In fact he has gone on a mission in Turkey, calling the army not to allow Talat to sign an agreement based on BBF. He insists on two people and two independent states.

We have our own bigots who also want a clean solution. By closing Ledras we will play into the hands of all these bigots that are responsible for our predicament. We must not do them this favour too.

Remember that respectable people in this forum have already come to the conclusion that partition is the only solution possible, bar a new war and more bloodshed.

What incident on Ledra Street ? Are people talking about the wandering police officers ?

Suppose that was an innocent wandering beyond agreed zones. Surely anyone interested in peace and reconciliation would forgive that ? Suppose it was a deliberate 'provocation', i.e testing the waters, surely anyone interested in peace and reconciliation would want the agreements to be resilient and accommodating enough to cater for this minor matter.

Of course if you're not interested in peace and reconciliation then any mole hill will do to turn into a mountain.
