The Meaning of the world patriotism has nothing to do with nationalism. The two meanings are not equal, at least as far as classic Greek literature and thought is concerned. I know in the rest of western literature the terms nationalism and patriotism are often used in a parallel or an equivalent fashion. The references to ENOSIS/TAKSIM that you make above are clearly acts attributed more to nationalism instead of Patriotism.
Patriotism doesn’t exclude universalism or internationalism. In the case of Cyprus it doesn’t exclude any of all the Cypriots (including the TCs.) It is not divisive between the two communities but rather a unifying term, provided we all accept Cyprus as our true homeland and not the motherlands.
