Good guess, my Dad's English wasn't too good when he came to UK and he translated gamma with a G instead of Y, I understand that before Epsilon it has the softer Y pronunciation. Some of my cousins start their name with Y and others use Grandfather's first name, Loizos, as their surname. It's quite confusing for the younger generation.
