Flat screen TV's

Postby zan » Sun Apr 06, 2008 9:06 pm

Can anyone give me a definitive answer to LCD or Plasma TVs' regarding watching them on normal terrestrial channels? They look great in HD and DVD but look rubbish on normal. They seem to be a little better on SKY and cable but not much. I really wanted to buy one today but switched it over to a football game I could not get out of the shop fast enough. The CRTS' are so much better.....Is there something new down the line?

Buy a projector and a 150 inch screen, let others buy LCD/Plasma crap.

Yeah, I have a 104" projector. Very nice. Looking to upgrade the screen to something nearer 150" though as I now have the wall for it. A nice electric one would be good. As to LCD, after seeing my friends 46" Sony LCD running Bluray at 1080p (my projector is only 720p) then I will probably get a 50" or so effort and chuck the 36" TV away. Sigh, justifying chucking £2500 (at the time) of now pretty much worthless TV (but brilliant TV still) is hard to do...

Cheers

I have a Sony VPL-PX31, 1280x1024 including PC/HD inputs and 2800 ANSI lumens, good enough to watch during daytime even with the curtains open. I am getting the short-throw lens for it in a couple of weeks and will paint a wall in white in the living room to give me in the region of 180" large screen. I might have to sit in the kitchen to be able to watch it though.

Why throw away a perfectly good TV BTW? Why don't you put it in the bedroom/spare room or give it to a charity?

Zan, if the majority of your viewing is sport, then Plasma screen is the best...if the majority of your time is watching movies then LCD is the go...

The reason is the refresh times...Plasma has quicker refresh rate than LCD...This is only noticeable when you watch sport...

...Next time you go to the shop put on a footie match and watch the dots around the ball...With an LCD panel you will see a haze around the ball as the ball is moving...with Plasma is far less noticeable...

Also size...With Plasma screens you can get a larger size...

Personally I chose an LCD panel...A sony 40" bravia and so far no complaints...
