Greek Cypriots shut Ledra checkpoint

Breaking News

Greek Cypriot authorities on Thursday shut the Ledra Street checkpoint, claiming a violation of an agreement by the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the presence of Turkish Cypriot police in the area.

"It is closed because of a violation of what was agreed by the occupation authorities," Cypriot Justice Minister Kypros Chrysostomides told the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation.

The buffer zone is under the Republic of Cyprus as agreed in the ceasefire in 1974 and it is under the control of UN.

The Turkish Cypriot police decided to station themselves on Kykkos street which is 2/3rds of the way into the buffer zone from the Turkish side. The TC police are not supposed to be there and it is a clear violation of the original ceasefire line and a clear violation of the agreement reached between the two sides in opening Ledra street.

Basically, the Turkish side is trying to lay claim to most of the buffer zone in and around Ledra street. They are obviously trying it on to see the reaction and if you ask me they are bloody morons. They should keep back at their checkpoint just as the Cypriot police are stationed at their checkpoint and leave the space in between to the UN.

What did you expect from people who elect an EOKA terrorist as their so-called "President" and replace that bastard with a communist bastard?

The two leaders signed an agreement to open Ledra street. The whole point of this is that the agreement is honoured. In this case, your moron police decided to station themselves 2/3rds into the buffer zone which is not theirs to patrol. If yuo people can't even follow basic rules what hope is there for a united Cyprus? I guess that is lost on you because you don't give a flying f**k about a united Cyrpus.

GC Rhetoric : We want a united cyprus, we want TC to think of themselves as Cypriots first, all people are equal. We want to live with TC together in peace.

GC Aim : Get the TC on side to get rid of the Turkish troops, then under a united cyprus (of which we are the majority and the rulers) we can slowly choke every TC out of cyprus, the ones remaining will be forced to give up their turkish heritage

The Result : politician will talk, GC's will protest, partition will eventually become the one and only solution. Turkish Armed forces remain on the TRNC forever excersing its legitimate power as a guarantor. Mountains will remain painted with the Turkish and TRNC flags...Ne Mutle Turkum Diyene.

Hey Al I still can't understand this phobia you have about us GC's that we're out to bury you in any way shape or form. Insisting like this the way you are leaves no room for peace. As much as you try to instill fear Al no one is budging to these empty fears, they're actually getting challenged.
How will you defend what you claim above? when our will is nothing of what you describe....compared to your will of ethnic cleansing

Mikkie stop talking from your arse...we now know what exactly happened last night...
The reason TC police left their position was to warn the protesters your stupid police allowed into the buffer zone,NOT TO GAIN GROUND...allowing demonstrators into the buffer zone was not a part of the agreement!!
demonstrate elswhere, not in the buffer zone!!!
