No one can stop the opening of the gate from now on ......

To find excuse , does not help at all ......

it was not easy to control the huge crowed ...... it was only first day of it .... your leaders didn't hope that GC's will show that much interest ....
Civilians were not thinking the way you are thinking..... at both sides people were very happy .... there is a very small groups at both side that they were not happy at all. Last night all the foregine diplomats were also passing by same rules .... they were also dancing and eating lokmades at Turkish part of the Nicosia .There was a music groups from GC's side and they were singing Greek music at the TC's sector of the Nicosia . Both GC's and TC's were singing and dancing with music groups ....

They were chanting '' Peace at Cyprus Can not Stop '' they were saying in 3 languages mate ....

 Is that what I asked you Halil? :? I am very happy for the people and the opening of Ledra :D but the agreement should be followed without no deviations from what it was agreed. Do you agree or not?

P.S. I saw some good lokma (loukoumas) in the TV last night. Now I get why you call it Lokmaci. I wish I could taste some. Unfortunately, we dont have any in Mars :(

UPDATE:
Turkish and Greek Cypriot authorities re-opened late Thursday the Ledra Gate to crossings in either direction after officials from the UN peace force held talks with the two sides. The brief closure of the gate on the evening of the opening ceremony showed how fragile the situation is and how quickly problems could emerge. The re-opening came after protesters gathered on the two "sides" to protest the closing of the gate.

Halil,

It was neither the RoC or "TRNC" police jurisdiction to enter the buffer zone. It was UN's jurisdiction ONLY. Do you understand that? :?

By coincidence, the same nit-picking, small-minded mentality that caused Greece, on the same day, to veto Macedonia's entry into NATO because they don't like its name.

halil, do you really believe that Christofias Government are looking for excuses to close the crossing?!!!!!!!!?

As I said before, what happened with the TC police breaking the rules was not of Talat's or Christofiaw faults. It was plainly a way for the turkish army generals to show who is calling the shots here. The sooner we all realise this and stand side by side in voicing our vision for a common future as Cypriots the sooner the solution will come. The key to finding the solution to the problem is acting like Cypriots both at grassroot as well as at leadership level. Lets not allow others to dictate what is "good" for us anymore..

There were 3 occasions when the TC police stationed themselves in the buffer zone yesterday. It wasn't just the once. Agreements were signed and they should be kept. The UN has control of the buffer zone, not the TC police or the GC police. This is not nit-picking. If we are to reach an agreed solution to the Cyprus problem then all sides need to keep their word otherwise there is no hope at all.

As for Greece vetoing FYROM, there are very good reasons for this and discussed in another thread. Hijacking the history of a nation is not a matter that can be brushed under the carpet.

I think that if the Turkish generals had this in mind, they would find a more effective way than telling a few TC policemen at an overcrowded and excited moment to cross into the buffer zone. This is only my interpretation, but on the balance of probabilities, it looked as though a few TC police went where they shouldn't have gone to exercise some crowd control. Not legal, but human and understandable.

The Turkish Cypriot police decided to station themselves on Kykkos street which is 2/3rds of the way into the buffer zone from the Turkish side. The TC police are not supposed to be there and it is a clear violation of the original ceasefire line and a clear violation of the agreement reached between the two sides in opening Ledra street.

Basically, the Turkish side is trying to lay claim to most of the buffer zone in and around Ledra street. They are obviously trying it on to see the reaction and if you ask me they are bloody morons. They should keep back at their checkpoint just as the Cypriot police are stationed at their checkpoint and leave the space in between to the UN.

Any idea where the UN were? Or is it a typical UN cock-up?

Loukoumi/lokum is a different thing. Lokma/loukoumas is the one fried with oil. I like both, anyway :D but I cannot find any here.
