Greek Cypriots shut Ledra checkpoint/ 4 another 50 years?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I dont see what the big deal is, people are crossing all the time, I thought GCs didnt accept division, then confirming and taking action over TC policemen stepping over a non exsistent border smells of people looking for any excuse to close the crossing. Kifeas Papacrp is gone and things have started to move forward, well donr Mr Christofiyas, lets hope he continues to take bold steps and place Turkey and TCs under pressure to take responding measures, this also helps President Talat to show Turkey that the GCs do want a solution and therefore gives him the opportunity to negotiate the changes needed to meet the GCs halfway.

Viewpoint, is it just me or are you takig a less partitionist philosophy and adopting a more moderate one which is more open to trying to find a solution such as True Federation?

Anyhow, we are not looking for any excuse to close Ledra. If Ledra is closed then how can we expect any success from the peace talks?

Closing Ledra was only to enforce the fact the the pseudo police encroached into the buffer zone and hence violated the cease fire line. When they withdrew, we received assurances from the UN that it will not happen again, then it was re-opened. And we hope it stays that way. However, if it does happen again, then I do not see that President Christofias has any other choice but to close Ledra until the pseudo police again withdraw according to the guidelines of the agreement signed by President Christofias and Talat.

The closing has nothing to do with TPap.

You are right I am willing to give Mr Christofiyas a chance he has statrted well and if he continues with the bold moves necessary to fnd a solution he will get my support, if he does not and adopts the Papacrap stance then he will have confirmed that agreed partition is the only real solution available to the people of this island.

As for the crossing being closed, it may happen again but the side that closes the gates will be the side viewed as looking for an excuse to close and therefore be viewed negatively.

Well good for you. I am very happy that you are adopting an open approach. President Christofias does want a solution and so do the majority of the GC people. It really is the ony way to move forward for all concerned on our tiny island. If would also suit Turkey as we would not stand in their way for EU accession should a workable and sustainable solution be found. There is nothing better than all parties ending up as winners in this long standing saga.

And as for closing Ledra down, the RoC has no desire to permanently shut it. However, if the agreement is violated they would have no choice but to act. If they do not, then the pseudo police will just enchroach even further. "Give an inch, take a mile" so to speak.

Surely, too rigid rules are bound to snap. A bit of flexibility should be welcomed and allowed and not seen in a negative way.
