Natty wrote:Hi Bill, that's an interesting analysis you make, and I can see where you're coming from..

As you say, one of the few things I've also noticed is that female members tend to get more responses in a lighter thread than they do in a political thread unless, it seems, you have an extremely strong and assertive character. I think in most cases you have to shout slightly more to get your point across if you're female, but then again it is a male dominated forum (in terms of numbers), and I'm sure if it was the other way round male members would also find it difficult to get their point across..

Another thing I've noticed is the occasional use of calling another forum member a women, and this being meant as an insult. Also when a particular male forum member is disliked, it has happened in the past that other forum members have become convinced that he must be a woman disguised as a man…

Really nice post Natty.

To be honest when I decided to start posting in the Cyprus problem section when I join I was scared since it was a male section and since I was young I believed that nobody will take me seriously. Anyway I finally did and lots of times I was ignored or not taken seriously or end up ruin the thread with light responses irrelevant with the topic. I was even told to go away and make more children for my own country since that was the only way to help. Oh dear Pyro...what a lovely memories

Anyway at some point all that have gone away ... Natty, Lana, Andry and other ladies used to post as well but only few posts...I am glad that things has changed a bit now with Tess and Oracle and the rest of the ladies who keep posting in there.

At some point I think insults and name calling put off female members.

Unfortunately, we have yet to see a good female political debater and I think that a lack of interest has something to do with it.

I just remembered Natty (aka) Nutty :) I recon she tops the ladies in political debate with some rare but strong posts.

Yeah .... I agree Natty is a refreshing and welcome contributor.

But I can't help wondering that the emphasis is on the "rare" ...

For a long while, Raphaella posted good references and links and left the debating arena to the others ....

But then she got involved with the political discussions around election time ...... and she suffered badly at the hands of not just Turk-TCs but also GCs.

The remarks were personal and I felt for her. She has since taken a back seat again.

The "rare" tactic is a good one.

It applies to the men too. Kifeas and Piratis are irresistible when they post because they post infrequently and have chosen their attack well.

A few other posters come and go and their arrival does bring a fresh atmosphere.

I am currently working on becoming "rarer" ..... just not extinct :?
