So please Niki keep fighting, i not on line now until sat, please keep me updated. I am out in Cyprus on the 16th if things do not improve i come and see you, and see the dogs,. I will not get you involved at all. Just show me where then i sort it myself

I have a feeling though you are near Paphos, I'm in Limassol. However if nothing has been done by our holiday on 18th????

I will go into the Municipality office to discuss it, they owe us a few favours. My problem is I have had flu for 3 weeks now and can still barely talk so I'll have to wait a few days.

The dogs are not near the owner (no idea where he is). There are no houses nearby at all so the chances of the owner seeing us are zero.

There is also the issue of having to be careful not to anger the owner. We have animals ourselves and I would hate him to take revenge.

There are many leaflets on dog care in the UK. In fact we wrote and designed many ourselves for a veterinarian client. I've never seen them here however and they tend to be in vet's surgeries which of course these dogs will have probably never been to.

 YES gori! Any visit back home to see family and friends is way above anything the elements can throw at you, though I suggest you do visit in warmer months in the future!

i kind of read this thread half-assed, so excuse me if i am off mark. (you all know how passionate i am on pet issues, so i am trying to keep out of this)...
did you try contacting the dog shelter in limossal that JuneMichael is affiliated with? i can PM you (or anyone) their contact info if you want some advice or help.

(and if you have a few extra hours a month, i am sure they could use your help....shameless plug)

GG the problem is that they are not stray dogs - they are actually owned by someone, and it is against the law to interefere with other peoples pets. Its harsh I know but Niki is caught between compassion and breaking the law, and possible revenge from the owner. Vets in Cyprus do not put down healthy animals - and I know I may seem to be hard here, but I wish the owner COULD get them put to sleep if he doesn't want them - rather than let them starve to death (notwithstanding adoption of course). Its a very sad, mad, situation. Good luck Niki x

i understnad that.... but i think a good talk with some professionals who care about pets (junemichael) might offer siome good suggestions.

you know, i work in the pet care industry, i had a client that was keeping thier dog (a german shorthair pointer) in a very small crate in thier basement for 23 hours a day.
the crate was too small, there was not good ventilation, it was next to the hot water heater, there was no food or water for the dog..... i had a talk with the owners, after getting some good advice from the professionals (ASPCA). if you approach the situation in a kindly, informative method, the owners might just hear what you have to say.
as the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.....

The dogs now seem to be ok. They are being fed and watered after my nagging the Municipality to call the owner and shame him again.

I have just been to see them and they had plenty of water and a new large bag of biscuits was sitting by their gate so fingers crossed it seems to have worked! They seem happier and more energetic.

Such a relief!

Thanks to everyone for their advice and thoughts.
