Very sad Niki mou, but alas not an isolated incident. I do hope that yours has a happy ending!

Thanks Bubbles & Tess.

I know this happens often but when you can hear their pitiful cries it is difficult to do nothing.

Take my advise, either embarass the owner or confront him with threats..not a nice approach. Your neighbors obviously think there will be trouble, so either start it or forget the dogs.
Sorry for been so blunt, but this is not a isolated inccident..

I will call someone at the Municipality who I think knows the owner. After that who knows!

Pityfull, there you go. It happens all over, even in the UK, so much for animal lovers and there sympathy.

You're right Purdey it does happen in the UK, the difference is the fact you can contact the RSPCA who will take action. I'm sure it will happen here eventually but there may be a long wait. As someone said this is not necessarily intentional cruelty but a different perspective towards the animals.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. It is not "intentional cruelty" but I still feel anger when I hear it happening.

Niki Please do not give up your fight to get this sorted. It is against the law ,if a dog has no water to drink, by that i mean it has to have water 24hrs If not they are breaking the law.If the dog under fed they still breaking the law and any vet will know if they are.

So please Niki keep fighting, i not on line now until sat, please keep me updated. I am out in Cyprus on the 16th if things do not improve i come and see you, and see the dogs,. I will not get you involved at all. Just show me where then i sort it myself

I'm saddened by this story but I'm sure it all boils down to education so I suggest we put together a simple guide in three languages that explains how to properly look after dogs which can then be printed out and placed in an offender's mail box.

There's bound to be a dog abuser out there that knows no better but is willing to learn...

I agree GR. I think it definitely has more to do with lack of education (especially when it comes to dogs) than it has with simply wanting to intentionally abuse your animal. You make a good suggestion, but I would expand on that by saying it would be a good idea to handout these leaflets to people when they first purchase their animal, or even better have someone (in the case of a dog the kennel owner perhaps) maybe briefly explain the best way to look after your pet.

Again I agree. An example is my Uncle who absolutely adores his dog (as do the whole family). They take her for long walks, they feed and water her, they buy her countless treats, but, as with many dog owners in Cyprus, they keep her tethered, in my opinion, for far too long. If they had someone with knowledge on animal welfare, like an RSPCA officer for example, explain to them why it is not good to keep dogs tethered for long periods of time, I believe that they would be more than willing to change their ways...
