EOKA Declaration

With the help of God, with faith to our honest fight, with the assistance of the whole Greek world and with the help of the Cypriots, WE RETAKE THE FIGHT TO SHAKE OFF THE ENGLISH YOKE, with sign the one given by our ancestors as a sacred consignment: “WITH THE SHIELD OR ON THE SHIELD” (-an ancient Spartan saying from the Spartan mothers to their sons when the latter would go to a fight, meaning that you shall win or die-there is no third choice-come back defeated)

CYPRIOT BROTHERS

- From the old centuries we are looked up by all those who render splendid the Greek history to keep their freedom, the Marathon fighters, the Salamis fighters, the 300 fighters of Leonidas (ancient king of Sparta) and the newer ones of the Albanian epic. We are looked up by the fighters of 1821 (Greek revolution against the Turks), who taught us that liberation from yoke by a dynast is gained always by BLOOD.
- We are also looked up, by the whole Greek world who watches us with anxiety but also with national pride.
- Let answers with action show that we will become much better from those (the above).
- It is time to show the world that if the international diplomacy is UNFAIR, the Cypriot soul is BRAVING, if our dynasts do not want to grant our freedom, we can claim it with our own HANDS and with our BLOOD.
- Let us show to the world once more, that even today, Greek man’s back does not accept to be in yoke. The fight will be tough; the dynast has the means and the number.
- We have the SOUL. We also have the RIGHT in our side. That’s why we shall WIN.

INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATS

Look up your deed; it is a shame in the 20th century people to shed their blood to gain their freedom, this holy gift for which we also fought in your side and for which, at least, you uphold that you fought against Nazism and Fascism.

GREEKS

Whenever you are hear our voice:

COME ON! ALL TOGETHER FOR THE FREEDOM OF OUR CYPRUS…

E.O.K.A.

LEADER

Regretfully I would ask to be excluded from the best wishes referred to in the title of this thread. I see little reason to celebrate these, in the main, fascist, stab you in the back bunch of unheroic, murderous thugs and assasins. May their victims rest in peace.

Thank you Kurupetos.

That song brought a tear to my eye. Evagoras Pallikaridis really loved his country and his people and this is reflected in his bueatiful songs and poetry.

I always feel very sad and angry that his life was cut so short by the barbaric colonialists. I read his poetry a lot, and I look up to him for inspration whenever I need it. He was a lovely man, hero and poet. :D

May we never forget all the heros that laid down their lives for freedom and respect all those that fought in the struggle for self determination. :D

Bill,

I am not a fascist. Just want to pay respects to people who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

Please show a little more respect as these people fought for self determination.

Many thanks :D

We all have differing views about EOKA not all are pleasant, please show a little respect to those who saw, witnessed and suffered from their activities...but by all means celebrate your freedom from British rule, just don't rub it in to hard.

I thought it was clear that I was condemning the murderers. I do show all due respect to the victims of freedom struggles anywhere in the world but I will not hold my tongue when it comes to celebrating murderers.

Bill,

The EOKA fighters were heroes not murderers. The murderers were the British colonialists who hanged a 17 year old schoolboy (Pallikarides) who didnt kill anyone. The burned Afxentiou alive and much more. Go read a history book. The British should have left Cyprus much earlier when the vast majority of the Cypriot people demanded self determination by peaceful protests in the 30s to 1955. They fooled Cypriots into fighting by the thousands against Germans in WW2 by promising independence.
You dont fight the wolf with words do you?

They all rest in hell alongside Hitler, Mussolini and Saddam Hussein.
