Water Cuts

Postby webbo » Mon Mar 31, 2008 9:09 am

Well folks, we have just completed day one of our water cuts and I have to say that it went better than anticipated. I think this is partly owing to the fact that we had been preparing ourselves for these cuts for the last few months and had already implemented various ways and means of using our grey water etc and in being rather frugal when turning on the tap!!

It is certainly not ideal living conditions and no doubt it will get worse as the summer approaches or until the government 'solves' the situation - whenever that will be!

How is everyone else coping? I believe Pafos have yet to introduced the cuts, but you will get them I am sure!

Was good that it rained yesterday and throughout the night - our water butt is quite full - but more is needed, so start praying people!

Get a yacht desalinator, a small one, giving 25 liters per hour. Costs about 3000 Euro and then you can tell the water company to stick their main pipes where they will do the most good.

How does one purchase such a thing (if one was interested that is!)

Another good thing - with using less water we should have a smaller bill - unless of course we get zapped with the governments bill for their efforts!!

Where do I store the salt water I am going to desalinate. and where do I get it in the first place. Ships stop the desalination plant when about 5 miles from land to avoid pollution.

Easy, you get a tank for salt water and one for the brine to return to the sea. You get a water carrier to deliver seawater to your in tank and empty your out tank. Sounds like a hassle, but two plastic tanks holding two cubic meters each are a lot less hassle than being at the mercy of water company.

If ships turn off their dealinators five miles out, what do the land based desalinator plants do? The one in Dhekelia has been operating for years with no ill environmental effects.

Lack of water may be a good way to get rid of all those who do not belong on the island, just so that the "natives" have enough water just for themselves, animals and fields.

The Federal Prison on Alcatraz was shut down for the same reason many years ago, because it became very costly to keep the place open, since everything had to be brought in from elsewhere by boats, including water.

Water shortage may well be the deciding factor in find a peaceful solution in Cyprus.........eventually.!!!

The water produced by land based plants will go through some very strictly controlled cleansing routines including chlorination and UV light to kill any bacteria. Not something to be done at home.

Fine for flushing toilets and watering the plants but I would not recommend drinking it.

By that do you mean eventually purchasing fresh water from the Manavgat river, Asia minor? Good idea. Perhaps they will (GCs) let the north  have some too.
