GENERAL BUYUKANIT UNDERLINES THE NEED FOR ENSURING SECURITY

Postby halil » Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:28 am

The Chief of the Turkish General Staff- General Yasar Buyukanit has made the emphasis on the fact that the major goal is to ensure the security of the Turkish Cypriot People and the removal of the international isolations as well as its prosperity.

General Yasar Buyukanit stressed that no matter what kind of a political agreement is reached on the Cyprus issue, it must be based on the sovereignty of the TRNC and equal rights.
Making a broad evaluation of the Cyprus issue at the Ercan Airport before leaving the TRNC , General Buyukanit emphasized that the Turkish troops will not be withdrawn unless they see a guarantee for a just and lasting peace in Cyprus.

`Turkish troops must remain on the island until we make sure that the Turkish Cypriot People are in security. If a political settlement is reached in Cyprus and this is followed by its successful implementation and the ensurance of the security of the Turkish Cypriot People, then this is when we will think of withdrawing our troops` the General said.

Touching upon the issue of the Lokmaci gate, Turkish Chief of Staff General Yasar Buyukanit stated that the Lokmaci gate is just one of many border gates in Cyprus.

He said theres an area at Lokmaci which is under the TRNC sovereignty and stressed that no changes will take place which will cause a threat against the sovereignty there.

`The claims that flags will be lowered in the area are false. The current order will be continued even if the gate is opened for crossings` he added.
General Buyukanit stressed that the Turksih Armed Forces will maintain its duty on the island until lasting peace is achieved

For some reason that sounds a lot like "never" should one side decide to cause even a mini riot. Bananiot should read this.

Buyukanit is a Turkish General. Decisions will be made by politicians. Papadopoulos is no more. The Turkish Generals are sad he made an exit. They were pretty happy with him. Now they have a problem.

Your showing your naivity again Bananiot if you think Turkish politicians have a say over Turkish generals. This is Turkey we are talking about - run by the military remember.

Greek Cypriot leader also has to ask his military commands everything he does at the borders . how you are playing ...... tell truth.... Turkish generals only says front of the press as well ... what they thinks or what they are planning . Have a look what else he said the public as well.

Büyükanıt said: "It is always beneficial to talk. Problems are always solved by talking."
"Everybody is talking about a just and lasting peace, but do we all mean the same thing? The authorities need to clearly detail the parameters of a just and lasting peace and explain their views to the public,"

urging the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders to lay out their visions for peace in detail. The top general, meanwhile, stressed that he hoped to see a deal based on the sovereignty and equal rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.

"There is no such thing as pulling troops out tomorrow if there is a peace deal today. The army needs to observe and be fully convinced of the safety of the Turkish Cypriots. Only then can this issue be considered,"

The general emphasized that the reopening of the pedestrian street, blocked off for decades, would not mean a withdrawal of Turkish soldiers stationed inside a military zone near the crossing. "Under no condition will we budge even a meter from the area we are responsible for,"

Good Lord bananiot, if you really believe that then the TCs have done a very good job on you. Are you serious? Really?

Just look at the comments below and the tone in which they were said:

"There is no such thing as pulling troops out tomorrow if there is a peace deal today. The army needs to observe and be fully convinced of the safety of the Turkish Cypriots."

`The claims that flags will be lowered in the area are false. The current order will be continued even if the gate is opened for crossings` he added.

And you still profess that Politicians will make the decisions??

You need to think again, you are just playing the GCs into the TC/Turks hands and you claim to be a GC. Hell, with your kind of logic who needs enermies.

And we were made to believe that it is the TC's that the GC's who needs to talk with each other for a solution.

It turns out, it has always been Turkey, still is Turkey, and will be Turkey.

Perhaps Talat should take a long vacation and let Christofias sit face to face with The Chief of the Turkish General Staff- General Yasar Buyukanit. I'm sure the weight of the medal he wears on his Uniform weigh more than Talat's whole body weight.!!

That just about sums up Talat's importance in these negotiation.

I said I was going to be patient and give Talat to prove me wrong, so I'll stop now, or else I can see myself writing another "Comedy" regarding these talks due to start soon.

I'll start putting some notes aside all the same, just in case.
