Peculiarly, I thought your posts are anti Greek but I never associated you with Turkish Cypriots.

Yes, I do herald from the fair village of Gypsou and Kkitros was a next door neighbour of mine. Philippos, his son, was my classmate. I suggest, since you know the family, you get a copy of the text Philippos's son read at the funeral of Kkitros. It was a catapult against nationalism and chauvinism. You see, in my village I was on the side of the majority and Piratis has better to respect this. Unlike the nearby villages of Lefkonoiko and Trikomo, Gypsos was a bastion of progressiveness and we boast that we never hurt a single Turkish Cypriot especially during the period when the paramilitarists went on a killing spree.

I hope the above answers your question, Pantheman.

Thank you Bananiot,

Call me thick, but I mistook you for a TC. The posts you write certainly show that as I cannot see a GC saying the things you do. But anyway, thanks for that.

I said My F-I-L used to go there as a youngster, but that was many years ago, I can't say he has any contact presently so getting a copy of whatever it is he read out is unlikely, unless you can supply it.

I will mention Phillipos to him to see if he knows or remembers him, but as I don't know your age, you maybe of a different generation. My FIL is 68.

My FIL fathers name was (as they used to call him) 'Xaouzas' (Panayis Kontos) if that rings any bells.

Anyhow, thanks again, although I am still confused why you write the things you do being a GC!

Cheers

Is Panais Kontos the man we used to call Kousparis? He used to play football and he married in Ayios Sergios but when he tried to settle in Cyprus in the 70´s he had to return to England after 1974. Is this your man? Panais was a few years older than me, I just about remember him.

Thanks again, but wrong fellow.

If you don't mind me asking what is your family name? You can pm me if you want, because if I mention someone to my FIL he will say whats his name?

Actually Panayi was a bit of a tomb raider, he used to know where to find these things. If I had known him sooner, I think I would have been rolling in it by now  But Alot of the museum pieces discovered were from him. My FIL tells me his name is is shown against the item on display, although I have never got round to see them yet!

But thanks anyway.

Did Xaouzas have a son called Xampis the watchman? Xampis had a shop in Famagusta. He was much older than me and I am now 57.
