Turkish Cypriots: have they best of both worlds?

Postby pythona » Sat Mar 29, 2008 10:35 pm

Hello I have some questions.

There is Turkish Cypriot village that is mostly empty. But recently I notice Turkish Cypriots have been coming back and making some of their houses better. I think they are using them as holiday homes or for weekends. Are they allowed to do this? Can they live in the north in GC houses but then have holidays in their old houses from before 1974?
They are very lucky to have two homes.

Most TCs have two homes.
I think that they are allowed to do this. But, instead of living in a old house, many prefer to make new house instead.

They sure can pythona, the Republic of Cyprus recognises their right to their property and indeed the whole of their country. It's pitty they feel they are better than other Cypriots and feel its okay to stop others from enjoying their homes and country. But no one said the world is just or fair.

I agree this is unfair as both Governments should share information. If a TC has handed his rights to his property and land to TRNC Government in exchange for former GC property they should have no right to their former property and land.

What should happen is TRNC provides details of TC land that has been handed to them in the South over to authorities in the South so this can be given to GC's who lost property and land in the North. Think many would agree to some exchange.

In fact some GC's have agreed to this arrangement via the Property Commission in TRNC.

What is needed official cooperation between the two governments of Cyprus so that TCs who have been given GC land as compensation for their losses in the South cannot have the best of both sides of Cyprus.

This is a new twist the the story.....Shame it has taken so long for the "RoC" to wake to the fact that by joining the EU it has to live by EU laws...We on the other hand are still in limbo so it does not apply. A rod for their own backs I think!!!
The fact that they will not accept the swap that you suggest is within their rights though......They are not that silly.

Zan - i think it is only fair that TC's can't have their cake and eat it.

If they got exchange land for what they lost in the South the TRNC Government should provide this info to the GC's and agree that they can distribute this to GC refugees.

Think TRNC government have made it illegal for TC who got exchange land will be prosecuted if they claimed their property and land back in the South. Only issue is information needs to be handed over so any greedy TC is told to f**k off and those that have done it thus far are prosecuted.

I agree as I said in my post...You try getting the "RoC" to accept that...It would mean that we get control of more land in the TRNC/KKTC and they cannot have that now can they. If that were the case then the Cyprob would have been easier to solve and the green line would have been permanent. I realise that with the claim of the 18% rubbish that the GCs put forward would be an issue but they cannot exchange because it would thwart what they aRE REALLY AFTER  8)
