Sine 1955 EOKA was fighting a liberation struggle against the colonialists (not against you) and then in 1958 you created the TMT and you attacked us, starting to kill us and demanding that we should be exterminated from half of our island. From the intercommunal conflict that followed your attack some 100s of people from both sides where killed.

So who has the most blame? TMT and TC extremists who initiated the conflict or EOKA that retaliated?

The 72 per cent of the territory for 82 per cent of the people is nonsense.

As for the Kossovo/Montenegro parallel those that propose it forget the basics: it does not change the INDIVIDUAL rights of property ownership and other rights which is what Turkey and the TCs are attempting to do in Cyprus and what has been repeatedly rejected by the ECHR and the international community.

There is talk of "realities" in the international political situation etc. Those that speak of the realities forget that a basic tenet of modern thinking and globalisation is the right of individuals and legal entities to own assets in any jurisdiction. The TRNC is the anachronism and the non realist when it goes against the trend by excluding GCs and others (basically all non TC communities of Cyprus) from these basic rights.

In any case, there is one vital objection regarding the British bases in the event of any territorial settlement. These must be declared from the outset to be on GC territory and in the event of their removal (for any reason) the territory they occupy reverts to the GC administration. Britain will have to deal with the GCs regarding these bits of land. We have an unfinished matter with the British and we do not need third party interference in that matter.

The cynical way to look at partition is that it is not the end game but the phase before the end game. Therefore the purdent thing to do is to vie for the best possible position when the end game comes. If you think this is too cynical a view then do not choose partition.

In the end, the new realities show the best way to be a return to the 1960 constitution with changes that will take the "new realities" into account, the most important of these being EU membership and the existence of the Euro.
