BTW ...Umitcik.. Oracle'cik' does NOT suit at all :P

'cik' and 'cuk' are words we use out of love or friendship .. :D

People in Turkey find this very weird. << your right lol in turkey when i said 'duzcuk' they had no idea what i was talking about.. they were like 'tuz mu istiyorumusunuz?' lol :P

I keep arguing with my house mate who is from Turkey that TC have their own dialect and he insist that no they speak proper Turkish and all the Turks can understand all the words they use.

When I was living in Ankara a cypriot friend of mine went to a computer store and asked for a "dümen" for his computer. In Turkish "dümen" is the stearing wheel of a ship! We use as the stearing wheel of a car.

We also can change a statement to a question just by intensifying the tone of the verb.

eg. Duz isten?

Ok, No trust me ... our dialect is VERY different from theres... they can immediately understand that we are not from turkey and they ask 'where are you from'

I would say they speak in a more formal way ... can't really describe it :?
eg. we prounce K as G, and P as B, and T as D .. they say 'tuz'(salt)
we say 'duz'

maybe your friend just doesn't know much about us.. but some cypriots change their accents sometimes too, when they are with turkish person, to make it easier from them to understand

Well Lena it's not that different that they can't understand but some things they find vry odd indeed. But it's the same in Turkey a guy from istanbul does not speak the same as a guy from the black sea area. THe thing is that written text is about exactly the same we may talk like this with ach other but when writing it's not the same case. Where exactly is your house mate from?
