Are the TCs a minority or not?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Are the TCs a minority or not?

Postby Paphitis » Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:24 pm

There have been a few members, such as Viewpoint, who openly state that they do not want a solution to the Cyprus problem as they fear being swamped by GCs. They also insist on anachronistic ideals such as guarantor powers for Turkey which would permanantly hold all Cypriots at ransom and de-stabolise the nation.

Do they not realize that they are a minoroty in the occupied areas?

The population of the occupied areas is 259,000. TCs make up approximately 80,000 or 31%, and Turkish settlers the remaining 179,000 or 69%. What is more worrying is the fact the the TC population is in decline and the Turkish settler population is on the increase.

Why are the TCs leaving the occupied areas? Could it be that they do not enjoy the same political and career opportunities as the Turkish settlers? Are they discriminated against in the so called pariah state of the "TRNC"?

The fact is that the TCs who live in the RoC enjoy more civil rights, career opportunity, have more stability and freedom than their TC counterparts in the occupied areas. If this were not the case then they would not have moved to the RoC. Yet some TCs are so blind or are partitionists that they seek unrealistic goals such as guarantors from Turkey and keep mentioning that they will not be swamped and be fobbed of with minority rights.

Sadly, TCs are a minority, and they have been fobbed of as an insignificant minority in the occupied areas.

I feel so sorry for my TC compatriots, as they have been swamped by Turkey itself, and it is getting worse and worse every year.

I hope that they embrace the peace talks and stop making unrealistic claims, before it is too late. If they fail to do so, then the sad truth is that the peace talks will fail, and the TC population will dwindle even further.

I was about to reply, but then I noticed his location, Australia.

A GC (I presume from name and views) in Australia who is an expert on conditions in TRNC

Here is the latest news for your claims .
Drum sound comes very nice from far away (Australia)

The Greek Cypriot court looking into the case filed by the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union KTOS against the Greek Cypriot Council of Ministers and Ministry of Education was finalized today.
The high administrative court rejected the KTOS case on the grounds that the case did not directly influence the interests of the plaintiff.

The Union had filed the case against the Greek Cypriot Administration to push forward for the right of Turkish Cypriot children living in Limassol to receive their education in their own native language.
Greek Cypriots Children's are having a education in their own native language in Northern Cyprus freely . books and their teachers are coming from Southern part of the Cyprus .

KTOS is going to take the case European human rights court.

I have been to the occupied areas. I visited a TC friend of mine in Kythrea who lives in my father in law's house. He works in the psuedo law enforcement. He told me what he was earning. About the same as what a 15 year old earns in Australia flipping burgers at MacDonalds. I felt very sorry for him.

By Greek Cypriot Administration, you mean Rupublic of Cyprus. And as a legal organ that it is, compared to the "TRNC" and "KTOS" which are not, what do you expect? I am sure that the RoC is not denying them their education in their language, it is probably more accurate that they do not have the teachers under the present circumstances.

There is little doubt left in the minds of professional biologists that Earth is currently faced with a mounting loss of species that threatens to rival the five great mass extinctions of the geological past.

As long ago as 1993, Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson estimated that Earth is currently losing something in the order of 30,000 species per year — which breaks down to the even more daunting statistic of some three species per hour.

Some biologists have begun to feel that this biodiversity crisis — this “Sixth Extinction” — is even more severe, and more imminent.

Extinctions in the past:
What caused them?

First major extinction (c. 440 mya): Climate change

Second major extinction (c. 370 mya): Climate change

Third major Extinction (c. 245 mya): Bolide impact

Fourth major extinction (c. 210 mya): Triassic Period, shortly after dinosaurs and mammals had first evolved, remains difficult to pin down in terms of precise causes.

Fifth major extinction (c. 65 mya):Wiped out the remaining terrestrial dinosaurs and marine ammonites, as well as many other species. Caused by one (possibly multiple) collisions between Earth and an extraterrestrial bolide (probably cometary).

Sixth Major Extinction

The current mass extinction will be caused by Turkish Humans.
Due to transformation of the Cypriot landscape
By over-exploitation of TC species
Through pollution by settlers and Turkish Troops
And introduction of alien species from Anatolia

And because Homo sapien is clearly a species of animal (however behaviorally and ecologically peculiar an animal), the Sixth Extinction would seem to be the first recorded global extinction event that has a biotic, rather than a physical, cause.

Paphitis there is a big difference being a minority in your own country and being a minority in someone else's country, i definitely do not look forward to being a minority amongst the Greeks especially.

It would mean i would probably have to listen to incredibly exquisite bullshit like the one above, on a daily basis. I mean how can one rational human being come up with such utter crap as does Phoenix, it totally baffles me!

Plus shes meant to be a "scientist" too!

On the other hand, most people who work in the RoC simply do so because of the conditions set by the embargoes in the North, not because they love you guys dearly and want to be with you for ever and ever. Most people don't like to have to leave their own country and end up living in foreign hostile conditions as it is very much so in the South, only to make a living :)

It is estimated that there is 800,000 Turkish Cypriots worldwide. The results of a census that took place in Northern Cyprus at the end of April 2006 indicated that the Turkish Cypriot population was 100,000 out of a total population of 264,172[1]. An island-wide census in 1960 indicated the number of Turkish Cypriots as 102,000 and Greek Cypriots as 450,000[2].
According to the Northern Cypriot administration, there are 500,000 Turkish Cypriots in Turkey, 250,000 Turkish Cypriots in United Kingdom[1], 50,000 Turkish Cypriots in Australia, 20,000 Turkish Cypriots in North America[3].
