GUARANTORSHIP CANNOT BE A BARGAINING

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Let's see about EU as if one breaks ranks it will just fall apart - It should get back to what it was all set up for "Free Trade".

I should change it that each Country should be given voting rights dependent on population. Let's say 1 vote per 100,000 or part thereof and 1 MEP per 500,000.

So Cyprus would get 9 votes and 2 MEP's. UK getting 606 votes and 122MEP's. This is the only fair system which I am sure the GC's will agree to as Majority - v - minority system.

No veto rights also but need 80% majority to pass any vote.

Once you take it out of its original context then you can attach to it whatever meaning you like and wished was true :)

Speaking to BRT’s AKIS program, Prime Minister Soyer said working groups and technical committees will be formed to discuss the details of the Cyprus problem and added that the objective is to bring a solution to the problem by the end of 2008.

As Turkish Cypriots, our common desire is to take its place within the European Union by continuing efforts to solve the Cyprus problem’ Mr Soyer said.

Stressing the need to bring about a bi-zonal and bi-communal solution to the Cyprus problem, he said it is necessary to accept the fact that as equals to the Greek Cypriots, the Turkish Cypriots have voting rights at the European Parliament.
On the opening of a gate at Lokmacı, the Premier said the demolition of the wall at the Lokmacı Barricade will lead to the demolition of the wall in minds of Greek Cypriots.

Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt said during a meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat in a rare landmark visit to the northern part of the island.
“We have no doubt that those who govern northern Cyprus including the president as well as officials in Turkey know what sort of peace is fair and long-lasting but their interlocutors should also know this; namely the South must understand this well,”
Büyükanıt also stated that no Turkish troops will be withdrawn from the island before a comprehensive settlement has been reached. "Our soldiers are here for the security of the Turkish Cypriots and they will continue to be here,"

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, said the visit by Büyükanıt revealed that there were no longer problems between Talat and the military, something which was used as leverage by the Greek Cypriots to dissuade the Turkish side. He emphasized that the Turkish military began trusting both Talat and the policies he pursued in time, while the current visit further strengthened the atmosphere of dialogue.

The Associated Press reported yesterday that "a sticking point to a Ledra [Lokmacı] opening appears to have been overcome after the Turkish Army agreed to keep patrolling soldiers out of sight of the crossing point area, officials close to the discussions said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue."

TALAT SAYS TIME IS NEEDED TO SEE WHETHER CHRISTOFIAS IS READY TO WORK FOR A SOLUTION IN CYPRUS

Mehmet Ali Talat has said that he got the impression during his recent meeting with the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias that he is in favour of a solution to the Cyprus problem but added this does not mean that they will absolutely reach an agreement.
He also stated that the property issue, which he described as very complicated, will be one of the most compelling issues at the negotiations table.
Talat told TRT2 (Turkish Radio & Tv Corporation) that the Greek Cypriot leader who is against the permanent division of the island - will be willing to change the situation on the island.there was a change in leadership in South Cyprus but said it is too early to say whether this change will lead to a change in policies of the Greek Cypriot Side.

In response to a question, the Talat stated that he would be very pleased to host Mr Christofias at the Presidential Palace.
`I can visit him, he can visit me`
On the issue of opening a gate in the heart of Lefkosa, Mr Talat noted that preparatory work on the opening of a gate at Lokmaci might not be completed by the end of March.

He reminded that the leaving UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus Michael Moller foresees April the 2nd for the opening of the gate.

Stating that the UN Undersecretary for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe will be arriving in Cyprus at the beginning of April, the President said the opening of the Lokmaci gate for crossings could take place at that time.
Mr Talat added that the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn is also expected to be in Cyprus at the time.

Defining the opening of the gate as symbolic, he stressed that the main objective is to bring about a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.

Stating that the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is cautious to launch a new initiative on the Cyprus issue right now, the President said Mr Ban told him that he would be taking such a step if-and-when both sides on the island are ready for it.
