Driving to cyprus

Postby markwoods39 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 11:31 am

Would it be worth my while to drive to cyprus from the uk. I have a nissan patrol 54 plate. Would it be cheaper to buy a car in cyprus than ship one out or drive????? If i drive out what route should i take, from the uk. :D

General consensus is that brining a car into Cyprus is still a nightmare although there are those that have done it successfully…

Use the search facility to find all the other threads about the subject – people that did it no problems and people that gave up and shipped the car back…

The only guaranteed way of driving to Cyprus ( well part of the way ) is by driving to Italy and catching a Grimaldi freighter from Salerno to Limassol ~ limited places on the boat and the journey takes about 6 days.

The alternative is to drive to Greece and take your chance from there but you may have to put the car on the boat, fly over to Cyprus and pick up your car from Limassol about 3 days later.

To be honest a Nissan patrol is going to cost you a fortune to register in Cyprus ~ if it's got a big engine it will probably cost more than the cars actually worth if you end up paying all the taxes.

I know two people that have shipped similar vehicles back to the UK as the taxes were to high for them ~ sadly they have also returned as they ended up being very frustrated with Cyprus .

You can drive straight out of Limassol port ( once you have paid the port fees) with your car as long as it's taxed and insured ~ you can then drive for 6 months in Cyprus and either go through the registration process or ship it back to the UK.

Personally I wouldn't bother bringing it.

Do'nt bother, too much hassle and the expense of both driving to Cyprus and then registering your car is ridiculous.Have posted before but will give you the figures again. Pajero 2.5 diesel LWB 1994 worth roughly £4k in UK when we shipped it out (cost with a few personal items in container £3.750K)tax asked for by customs in Paphos CY£17,500.00!!! Yes,seventeen thousand five hundred pounds!!! We shipped it and ourselves back after nine months .Hope this makes your decision easier for you..This was after Cyprus entered the eu so nothing should have been paid which is why we shipped it.

We had dealings with the Mitsubishi garage on the polis road in paphos.Guys name is Andy Phillips, very fair and will lend you a car while he is finding you one.Plenty of sharks about so just take advice from non sellers who have bought in Cyprus and have no commission interest in giving you a name.
