My dear friends , just back in London , I thank you all for your wishes on the birth of little Yiannis !!! weighing in at 4 kg , big boy complete with hair and a moustache !! I left Limassol for Nicosia Monday 24th at 11 am and half an hour later my son in law rung me to say that the doctor looking after my daughter on examining her decided that a natural birth wasnt safe in view of the baby's head being in the wrong position and that a cesarean was to be carried out soon. I drove to Nicosia and as usual was met at Ledra Palace crossing by Halil . After visiting cancer tulip , where once again we witnessed the efforts of the volunteers and presented them with donations raised in London , we proceeded towards Hilarion Castle , taking in the breathtaking views on the way . We reached the top and stopped to admire the scenery when my mobile rung and it was my son in law who informed that the baby was born and all was perfectly good and that my daughter was in excellent condition.....
Those of us who are lucky enough to have experienced the arrival of a grandchild must know what an excillerating and emotional time it is , I was over the moon that both were ok and the baby in tip top condition !!
Halil shook my hand and was the first person to congratulate me and at lunchtime later on to share a glass of wine and wet the baby's head !! Only had one glass each because Halil was driving and I had left my car at the crossing . My dear friend Halil gifted me with three bottles of red wine and can report that they were all first class and very enjoyable.
I thank you Halil and a very special thank you for the book you gave me of Sevgul Uludag , OYSTERS WITH THE MISSING PEARLS .
I'm grateful that I had the chance to read the entire book and so exuberant that all that I stand for as far as the Cyprus problem is concerned is in line with the authors personal views. I shall start a new thread on Sevgul's book so as not to turn this particular one into a political one.
My wife was due to have come back with me today , but on Monday following the birth of Yiannis she announced to all that she wanted to stay a little longer on the understanding that when she wanted to come back I would fly out and accompany her back to London . We have an excellent Doctor in Limassol who looks after her and we have complete faith in Dr Demetris ( not related ) .
A short comment on the Cyprus weather in that how beautiful it was during my 6 days there .
