I just put a couple of bricks in the cistern, which without looking at the above link assume achieves the same result.

That a great idea, i wonder and hope others will follow, or just save an empty coke bottle and fill it with water, same thing. It will save 2ltrs on every flush. WOW. CAN you imagine if everyone did this , how many litres a yr it would save, and how much it would save you in cash to the water board  Now that a great cash saving

As we're in Cyprus though, most people will probably now fill their cisterns with concrete in lieu of bricks. ;)

Not water - SAND!

We have always had bricks in our cisterns - both here and back home!

Cyprus mail todays said:

WATER cuts will kick in from tomorrow, with consumers supplied water three times a week for around 12 hours, the Nicosia Water Board decided yesterday.

Don't know what other places will implement.

Driving home this afternoon, I noticed a little coffee shop putting in a second water tank - twice the size of the original!! Surely this is not needed!
Is there no 'planning permission' required for such objects? :? Do neighbours have the right to oppose such changes?
