GLUTEN FREE FOOD IN CYPRUS!!

Postby dcoops22 » Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:57 pm

Does anyone know of any gluten free food brands in cyprus or even any resturants that cater for people with wheat allergies?

Also does anyone know what the greek words for gluten free are if any at all?

Hi dcoops22, will you be eating out all of the time as I believe Carrefore (supermarket) sell gluten free products as well as a variety of flour such as rice and potato flour. Most of the supermarkets sell rice cakes and the bakers sell lovely rye or corn bread - but you would have to check if they used wheat too. Hope this helps! Enjoy your holiday!

When I was there last October I came accross two organic food stores that had gluten free products. One is on the same road as the old General Hospital may be a ten minute walk from there heading west. The other one was a tiny place in Larnaca near Ayios Lazarus Church in one of the side streets. Accross the road from a souvlaki joint.

My wife is gluten intolerant and it is rarely a problem. The large supermarkets nearly all have a health food section with a wide-ish range of flours, pastas, rye bread and rice cakes etc. They are usually imported, so my guess would be that you will see many of the same brands that you get in UK. Eating out is never a problem as Cyprus restaurants are big on meat, fish and salad dishes.
