Are we burying the skeletons, at last?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Even your President accepts more responsibility then you do Phoenix, but here you are still spreading unfounded crap no matter what

Defence my arse!

If all you were doing was "defending" then why were the TC's having to "defend" themselves in their own country?

Who were we all "defending" ourselves from?

Maybe the donkeys planned an invasion

How can this be the case as not even 1 TC was killed during the coup?

It takes a lot of maturity to trust. Are you big enough to let go of the past and move forward for a better future for your kids.

Fortunately, the younger generations of today are very mature, and I doubt that they will make the same mistakes of the past. It is time to move forward.

It is also not a question of minority versus majority. The 2 communities can intgrate to form one strong nation called Cyprus with only Cypriot citizens. We must remember that the year is 2008, and diversity is a good thing. In Australia (a very diverse nation) Greeks and Turks live together. Not one bit of violence. Many are even friends. This is the proof. No one wants war and pain. We all want bright futures, prosperity and our health.

I think the young generation dont give a shit about reunification, half of them dont even have a clue of whats going on, they are more interested in a high standard of living supplied to them by their parents and the opposite sex.

As for trust I agree it is the key, becuase there is no trust we demand structures to provide what is naturally found in other countries. But our experiencies tell us that GCs do not have our best interests at heart and being the numerical larger community they will swamp the country leaving us at their mercy. Will you fight for my child when he is discriminated against, when the government organs are run by GCs? but the underlying tones maybe discriminaiton which can be dressed to look like democracy, where will the GCs be then while I am fight for my rights in the corridors of the ECHR???

The gathering is about finding a solution for unity, not about blaming and racist justifications of the incidents, i think Phoenix might feel kind of "out of place" there

Viewpoint,

I understand your point of view. However, Cyprus is now a member of the EU and the principles that the EU are founded are of equal opportunity for all in a democratic society, free movement and a free market. If a solution is founded, and I really hope it is, then all citizens rights can and should be protected constitutionally. Mechanisms should be put in place where TCs can enjoy employment in Cyprus' high offices of the public service, employment within the defence forces and police etc etc. TCs should also be protected and assisted in opening their own ventures if they so desire. Some ventures can also be done jointly with GCs.

I do not believe that GCs will want to swamp the TCs. I beleive GCs and TCs would be more interested in nation building and creating a good standard of living.

If your child is discriminated against, then yes, I will join you in your fight for justice and I beleive that most GCs will do the same. And a portion of Cyprus' organs as stated above will also be TC as they must be inducted into public service departments, military and police positions etc.

Thats what we are asking for a structure that will ensure all these are done and not swept under the carpet, we will nto enter any agreements were the GCs are allowed the opportunity to dominate anc discrminate against us in any shape or form. If all the deciding bodies all over a united Cyprus are GCs then this will allow them to manipulate the system and discriminate without hinderence.

I do beleive that if a solution is founded, then all these structures will be put in place. There is no reason why TCs can not enjoy the same rights as GCs. If you look at the RoC at the moment, we have a number of minority coomunities such as Latin, Maronites and Armenians. They enjoy the same rights as GCs. Some have great jobs and they all enjoy the same standard of living as GCs with free higher education as well. Even the President of the Cyprus parliiament is Armenian.

According to EU doctrine, even gay rights must be protected. Occasionally Cyprus falls foul of this as we are sometimes not so tolerant of our gay community, but things are improving all the time.

I think we can build a tolerant community. Other countries have done it with success. Belgium, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are good examples of this. I beleive we can be just as mature as these countries.
