what you may not realise is that OP's political opinions may be irksome, and although they compare as extreme to others, they are in the idealist sense perfectly correct. If we had as much courage as Human Beings, we would be choosing the very same view for our own lives. Frankly the more I hear from the Turkish Cypriot members on this forum the more I am beginning to understand how badly they have been treated by their own leadership, which has produced so much harm with a mongering of fear, and a pride based on exclusion. The isolation which exists in my opinion is so that the elite of their society has the absolute control over that population which the "Greek" elite desire over the whole island.

We are however Cypriots, not Greeks nor Turks...and unless one wishes subjugation, there is little choice outside the ones that OP expounds upon. sorry for getting off topic, but as is so common i will blame someone else for starting it.

Bravo Mdme. O.

hey, i LIKE Oracle. and i don't think this topic has anything to do with being greek or turkish or cypriot. i think it was about turles, and how they taste like chicken....

I am really fortunate I can just nip across the road and keep an eye on turtle nesting sites.

My cousin was lucky enough to see a pair of turtles mating about half a mile out to sea, just in front of our house ... he is a typical butch unsentimental hard as nails guy but the emotion in his voice when he was telling us about it was incredible ... People are genuinely moved when they see these creatures ... they are so gentle and strange and old ... they make us feel connected to our ancestry somehow.

Anyway I am relieved this expansion was reversed so quickly ....

GG .... birds and reptiles evolved from a common ancestor hence the "taste" similarity ... although I know you are kidding

well, then you will have to ban boat fishing also... 3 months ago i went with a boat to get few octopuses for lunch and again almost ran over a turtle, all tho some manage to dive you still can damage them with a propeller... so i maneuvered the boat to the right so quick that my koumbaros almost fell off... :D

My days may be numbered though as through frustration I made a direct appeal (in the form of further action, petition etc) to the business that was encroaching on the Turtle territories.

However, this weekend they have not only stopped their development, but have removed (nearly) all the materials that they had erected to expand their business into the turtle-sensitive area.

I am sure it is thanks to the Fisheries Department and through the Turtle conservationists, that real pressure was placed upon the business to rethink their expansion. I will contact them during office hours to thank them.

And if you are that business and are reading this ..... I want to thank you for actually carrying out the reversal ... No hard feelings  and I will support you through word of mouth for doing the right thing in the end ..... as that is what matters :D Well done!

That is good news. I keep meaning to join the TurtleWatch team at this end of the island.................one day..........................
