Never mind the Turtle watch… it’s the Turko watch I’m worried about if the National Guard service period is reduced as some fools are pushing.

No, I don't think so, hence the number of replies.

Success!

My days may be numbered though as through frustration I made a direct appeal (in the form of further action, petition etc) to the business that was encroaching on the Turtle territories.

However, this weekend they have not only stopped their development, but have removed (nearly) all the materials that they had erected to expand their business into the turtle-sensitive area.

I am sure it is thanks to the Fisheries Department and through the Turtle conservationists, that real pressure was placed upon the business to rethink their expansion. I will contact them during office hours to thank them.

And if you are that business and are reading this ..... I want to thank you for actually carrying out the reversal ... No hard feelings  and I will support you through word of mouth for doing the right thing in the end ..... as that is what matters :D Well done!

Wasn't Lara beach reserved for turtles? What happened? Someone realised that every single square inch of seaside land should be given over to the tanning of northern Europeans? Tourism and Development are two words we must think about very seriously because they do not always have positive meanings.

This dispute was not at Lara beach.

I don't know what to make of Lara beach .... just twenty years ago there was hardly ever a single person there even in high summer. Then boat cruises from Paphos started opening it up as easily accessible. Two summers ago, it was so busy there with people intent on stimulating their melanocytes ... that I wondered how the turtles would ever survive.

However so long as the eggs are not disturbed ... man and beast can co-exist. Night-time lights (and to some extent human presence and noise) would disturb nesting I believe ... but these should not be an issue as there are no restaurants encircling the beach at Lara.

But definitely one to watch ..... although the conservationists there seem to have things under control.

dear GG,

what you may not realise is that OP's political opinions may be irksome, and although they compare as extreme to others, they are in the idealist sense perfectly correct. If we had as much courage as Human Beings, we would be choosing the very same view for our own lives. Frankly the more I hear from the Turkish Cypriot members on this forum the more I am beginning to understand how badly they have been treated by their own leadership, which has produced so much harm with a mongering of fear, and a pride based on exclusion. The isolation which exists in my opinion is so that the elite of their society has the absolute control over that population which the "Greek" elite desire over the whole island.

We are however Cypriots, not Greeks nor Turks...and unless one wishes subjugation, there is little choice outside the ones that OP expounds upon. sorry for getting off topic, but as is so common i will blame someone else for starting it.

Bravo Mdme. O.

RW .... you make me blush as I do so hate sentiment

Not that criticism is preferable, just easier to deal with, being the dish I am most served ...

Right or wrong, well received or panned, acceptability is not a gauge I use too often to form views.

As a reductionist my breaking things down to deal with in their simplest form, is unsettling for some. No one likes being under a microscope, having their every utterance analysed.

Regarding your vision for Cyprus ... I would truly like to know how it developed in your mind; what other ideas you entertained but discarded along the way, in order to refine it to its present form.

For my mentality, it is complicated and therefore unlikely to be workable at the outset, too elaborate to adopt immediately. Better to start simply, like a patient recuperating gently building up their strength.

Maybe that is too cautious ....
