ROTH HAS ARRIVED TO THE TRNC

Co-President of the German Greens Party and Federal German Parliamentarian Claudia Roth had arrived yesterday to TRNC yesterday upon the invitation of Republic Parliament President, Ms Fatma Ekenoðlu.

In her statement delivered at the Ercan Airport, Roth announced, “We are pleased to have finally arrived to the island as we have promised. We are here to assist with establishing bridges after many years have past and to assist the establishment of a joint identity between the people of the island.”
Ms Roth will be accompanied by Ozcan Mutlu and Bilkay Oney - Berlin State Assembly Deputies of Turkish origin during her visit to the TRNC .
As part of her contacts in the TRNC, she will visit the acting-rector of the Eastern Mediterranean University, where she will deliver a speech on ‘EU-Turkey Relations and Cyprus’.

During her stay in North Cyprus, she will also visit the Lokmaci Barricade and the mixed village of Pile.

Welcoming the German delegation at Ercan Airport, Mrs Ekenoglu said `we are going through a critical phase. I think Mrs Roth’s visit is very important as it came at a time when we expect the negotiations in Cyprus to start`.
Mrs. Roth the Turkish Cypriot people were the last community in Europe that were isolated from the rest of the world.

Mrs. Roth said that she was in Cyprus to support efforts to reunify the island, adding that Europe was not made up of walls but of open boundaries.

The Co-Chairperson of the German Greens Party also praised the Turkish Cypriots for continuing to pursue its determined policy towards reaching a settlement on the island.
