The 4th Karpaz Tulip Festival has been held at the village of Avtepe in the Karpaz Peninsula in North Cyprus.

The aim of the festival is to raise awareness about the need to protect tulips which are in danger of becoming extinct.
The festivities included exhibitions, folk dancing and many other cultural activities.

These were followed by a refreshing trip to the area where wild tulips grow in abundance.

The trip created an opportunity for all participants to enjoy the bright Mediterranean sun and the captivating beauty of the Karpaz landscape.
In the speeches delivered, the need to protect the natural beauties of Karpaz was underlined.

Tulipa cypria – also known as Medoş Lalesi – is endemic to Cyprus.
They found mostly in careal fields hidden below the level of the wheat, but in great numbers.

Tulips bloom from early March to April.

No I haven't you never told me about it. By the way, we call them Laledes (plural) and this year they feel the pinch of water shortage. What's the Greek name of the village Halil?

If so rare it would be an idea to pick the bulbs and cultivate more.I would be interested to know how deep the bulbs are planted.

You would be breaking the law my friend if you went digging for bulbs. Strictly forbidden.
