Hooliganism is an international problem and exists everywhere. Here are just a few articles from just one newspaper over the last 1 year:
POLICE have threatened to boycott high-risk sports events after Larnaca’s Police Chief was injured and fires were set during a basketball match between AEL Limassol and APOEL Nicosia at the Kition Stadium in Larnaca on Thursday night.

THE ELECTION victory of left-wing candidate Demetris Christofias on Sunday night sparked off violent reactions as hooded right-wing thugs went on the rampage in Nicosia and Limassol, attacking five moving cars, including a police car, and setting alight rubbish bins, cardboard boxes, skips and wild scrub.

So yes, in Cyprus, like in many other countries, we have a problem with Hooliganism and actions must be taken.
But in this thread what we see is the attempt of some partitionists to politicize one such event to serve their aim. "Oh, the car of some TC was damaged by some Hooligans. This means Turkey should kill 1000s of people, ethnically cleanse 100s of thousands and steal those evil GCs lands in response".
If we had accepted the Annan plan then maybe TCs would withdraw from the parliament and Turkey would be invading us again today to save the poor TCs from being massacred from the APOEL Hooligans
Then for the next 50 years they would be talking about the "2008 events".
Yes, I am intentionally exaggerating a bit, but I can very easily see how those that want the division of the country could not only take advantage of such events, but also provoke them and help for their escalation if they decide that such thing would serve their aims.
