administer the street?? There are five active checkpoints and so far everyone is administering their side of these checkpoints...why should Ledra be different? There will be a checkpoint + neutral zone at the end of Ledra Street joining to Lokmacı on Turkish side...ROC will administer Ledra Street (as they have always done so) and Turkish side will administer Lokmacı & adjoining Arasta..

When was the last time you visited Cyprus Zan?

About six years ago but will be there this year. This is what I have been asking for a while now..Where the hell have you been

No one seems to have been able to answer the question. A while back they said that the whole street would come under "RoC" administration which would have meant a change in the ownership so I was confused.......So Are you saying that shoppers can shop up to a point and then they have to show their passports to carry on shopping on the other side...I still can't imagine it !!! :?

yeppppp...thats exactly how it will be.
If you ask me,it will be a new can of worms but hey...who am i to decide?

Why will it be a can of worms......

Because there are hardly any Cypriots left living in the walled section of Nicosia (on both sides) will be a problem to keep them out from either side..

this is the mentality in both sides that have kept ledras closed.
hopefully, it has changed.

adminster A street

Who is it to be then Cyp........Would YOU object if it was the TRNC...I bet you would......Just this one street has implications as well as showing good will...I hope that no one decides to take advantage of the situation thats all....

from gc bloggers:
Fellow Cypriots and fellow Citizens of this Country no matter where you came from or which is your mother tongue. Join us Friday evening at Ledras Street.
After the meeting of our President Christofias with the Turkish Cypriot Leader M.A. Talat we will be gathered there to express our will and our demand for the reopening of Ledras street as a first step of bilateral good will.

And also for “giving peace a chance”. Let us all be there!

......Let us turn Ledras Street into a Peace Avenue !.....

Well it seems this avenue will have two points in which you have to show your passport if you want to visit the whole street Cyp........

I like the titles of the two leaders as well...I wonder how many people will stay away because of that wording......I know I would.

i know you would

Never expected otherwise

Look
Ledras will open.

A number of you (GCs and TCs alike) that choose to fight over words, you can stay here and continue doing it.... to be honest i believe you all enjoy it...

you see i am not really bothered to follow, these "arguments" anymore.

I ll be at ledras on the day, with some more people.
And anyone wishing to be there, either the coming friday or the day it will open is of course welcome.

I am really sorry that i can not help those who will not come.
But to be honest i dont really care.
I am not bothered to care.
Do whatever you want

You do care Cyp....Every one cares.......There are many here that make those speeches and as soon as the details are put on the table then people perception of what is right and wrong is something they can't let go of. I am not having a go at you but at the wording......Have you got an idea of a solution in your head..Then you will be at odds with someone.....You are GC so you think that the "RoC" should rule...Am I right...... :?:

zan there is a State, there is a Constitution to reform. It is not a "Greek" or "Turkish" state. I think you confuse Government with this fact. If Cyprus is important to you, then it is not an issue of one ethnicity or the other, although both can have their own self representation because the Principal of the State is Bicommunal. You seek Good Government, I think...

There is also the difference of Individual and Person, this is the essence to focus on if you are seeking rights for the Turcophone Community. And I hope that the leadership on both sides are prepared to look at the Problem in all honesty: Citizens as Individuals, and the same citizens as Persons.

I seek clarity RW. The problems we have had since 1963 has been who to blame. If we as TCs come over to accept the "RoC" then everything we have done to date has been wrong. If the "RoC" comes over to us then it declares the same. We HAVE to meet in the middle. Neither of us can live withe the stigma of that.

...exactly. consider the words State vs Government, Individual vs Person to start, if you seek clarity. In my opinion we need to define these points to have a clear understanding of ourselves, toward establishing/ reestablishing the Bicommunal nature of our desires.
