I must admit that Kakopetria has a magic touch with its abundance of fresh cool waters and the bloosoming trees in spring Must not forget the rabbits in their hutches begging to jump in to the cooking pots.

I forgot about those pics!

We were there in the middle of the summer so it's not exactly as green and wet as it can get.

Right, but you can still imagine. Especially the rest of the island is almost parched. Nice memories GR.

Deniz asked: "Now, where is Lefkonico/Lefkonuk?"

Northeast of Trikomo, where the Turkish army reportedly built a big base. There was a place near Lefkoniko where someone had planted trees in the shape of the map of Cyprus in a small valley. You could see the map made of trees when you drove on the road up on the hillside and looked down. It is a hazy memory from a primary school trip, but I am pretty sure it is around Lefkoniko.

Nikitas, The question of Lefkonico was purely malicious.

I know where it is , thats where my cousins from Kophinou were re-settled. The new given name after 1974 was Yeni Gecitkale then Gecitkale. My intention was to point out that without the original names, history is lost. Sorry to confuse you. Because my cousins lived there, it is only one of the very few villages that I know with its 'new' name. I will welcome old names with delight.

A few of the tree-map of Cyprus still exists, but hard to see the shape itself. From long ago the upside down map had a few trees missing.

deatails of the latest news for the airport

Gecitkale Airport in North Cyprus has been leased
British firm has secured a deal - the first to see large-scale direct foreign investment in the TRNC - to redevelop Gecitkale Airport into a cargo hub. Gecitkale airport is a secondary airport in North Cyprus after Ercan. Cyprus Aviation Services Limited (CAS) has been granted a 15-year lease at the airfield and is planning to initially invest about 50 million euros in a ground breaking deal. The airport has been leased on a yearly management contract for 1,579,990 euros. It is the first time a foreign company has invested in the TRNC not under the auspices of the EU, UN of Turkish front companies.
CAS says it is also set to challenge the embargo on TRNC-produced fruit and vegetables by selling direct to supermarket chains in the UK and Europe, as well as Middle East. The venture is also set to boost employment in North Cyprus, with jobs for 800 to 1,000 people promissed in the first two years - with at least 75% of posts going to Turkish Cypriots. Within 5 years they hope 10,000 people could be employed by CAS.

The ambitious project included making Gecitkale suitable for heavier aircraft, and the 2,850-metre-long runway would be extended to 3,500 metres - the longest in the Mediterranean and Middle East. The project is set to start within a year after the agreement was rubber-stamped by the Council of Ministers.

Has anyone heard of a place called Potamiou, in the same area as Omodos? Spent two magical weeks there as a child, at my uncle's house who was teaching there and was a true Renaissance man, with so many interests beyond his profession.

Potamiou is next to Omodos and Mandria. My aunt used to live in Omodos before she died but my uncle still live there so I kind of know the area.
