Favourite Cypriot Village ....

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

RichardB wrote:I should say Lemythou where my house is though it doesnt have a lot happening the people are so friendly with a real sense of community and I feel at home there. and as with all the mountain villages the setting and views are wonderful and being one of the highest villages in Cyprus we often get a white Christmas (Logs on the fire and all that).

But as Oracle would probably say I,m just being biased.

So I'll go for Platres (Pano) where we first lived when we got married, everything you need is available in a beautiful Alpine style setting. Once the tourists have gone back down the hill then again it shows that community spirit that can only be found in the mountains.

I thank you

No Richard I am not the one that labels people biased, racists, bigots etc... you are getting confused with the labels others attach to me. I am very liberal minded....

Lemythou sounds worth a visit .... so I have made a note of it ... perhaps I'll bump into you ....

Platres is one of my favourites too ... mountain villages have more of a draw as I get older ... it used to be the sea placed ones that held an appeal during my bikini-clad days ...

Grumps is spot on.Pissouri is a lovely village and I am talking as a holiday maker.I hope very soon to be a resident in Cyprus but not in Pissouri.
So as much as I love Pissouri I would prefer to live elsewhere when we move over. But we will be regular visitors to the great restaurants and tavernas, and having a drink with Leon(Sparti pub) and to enjoy the atmosphere of the village square.

Cheers Norman.

I like the vilages around paphos, they have a nice view both mountain and sea and it seems that they have a bit of everything!

In my village we used to have a saying that went like this "when you meet a mountain person, grab a stick". Probably, this is because the Mesaoria people were honest and proud people that believed that "it is better to lose an eye than you reputation as a fair and honest person". I am not sure of what experiences they had with mountain people but sayings like the above did not come about for nothing. One more thing I have just remembered. Mesaoria people would tell you that if a visitor came to your house and you had no food to offer, you would better slain one of your children.

I would go for any village in the Mesaoria plain

I must vote for my "home" village Agios Amvrosios, Kyrenia District
(occupied by the ba.....rds of the Turkish Army since 1974)

(O. If you'll forgive me for saying so, for questioning your infinite judgement, knowledge and wisdom that is,but this is a silly question to ask Cypriots. Won't they tend to vote for their home village like what I have done? )

Well I love my home village to live in: sea, mountains, friendly locals, fruit trees, dam with valleys, greenery in winter / Spring, contrasting moon-like landscape in Summer ..... but on a typical Sunday when you just want something new and adventurous ... where do you go? :?

Sometimes you can only appreciate what you truly have at home, by travelling elsewhere ...

P.S. ... occupied villages are included as in theory we can visit them :( and they are still part of Cyprus even if presently occupied by Bloody Turks and hence maybe lacking in ambience ...
