First Attention Deficit Disorder conference in Cyprus
By Anna Hassapi
CYPRUS will, for the first time, host a conference devoted to understanding the disability known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD). (to address the key characteristics of general population of cyprus ages 10-45)
The conference, titled ‘AD/HD is REAL COOL’ has been organized by ADD-ADHD Cyprus, an NGO dedicated to providing support, information, education and support on issues related to the learning disability.
“AD/HD is REAL is the natural culmination of years of work. When we started ADD-ADHD Cyprus in the year 2000 as a group of two parents and a teacher, we felt totally alone. Now, we work hand in hand with the Ministries of Health and Education, other non-governmental organizations and the private sector. How is that possible? It is because we all have the best interests of our children at heart,” said Susan Chrysostomou, President and Founder of ADD-ADHD Cyprus.
AD/HD is a neurobiological disorder that experts estimate affects 5-7 per cent of school age children. Children and adults with AD/HD experience chronic problems with inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Without early identification and appropriate treatment, AD/HD can have serious consequences that include school failure and drop out, depression, failed relationships, underachievement in the workplace, and substance abuse.(pretty much 70% of the population of cyprus fall in this category especially around Limassol )
“That’s why we started ADD-ADHD Support. To help parents, teachers and doctors in Cyprus to better understand AD/HD. Because these children can and do succeed with multi-modal treatment programs combined with support and encouragement,” explained Irene Philippou, Special Educator and Vice President of ADD-ADHD Cyprus.
members agree that the entire population of the island should attend ,agreeing that most cypriots suffer from this mental illness through decades of ignorance ,arrogance and aceptance of self importance through their daily lives .
senior consultant AVRAM PADDOUPOULOUS ...suggest a cull of some 70% of the general population of cyprus would do the trick ...
"day in ,day out ,i meet people who cannot read a book ,have no general knowledge ,prejudge people around them and conduct themselves whilst driving in a manner that world war 2 japanese pilots would be proud of ...indeed a cull is needed especially in the NICOSIA ,PAPHOS AND RED VILLAGES AREAS ...
a sweet way to rid the surplus bullets stored by the national guard ,said new minister of disinformation ,"we could also put the guys who came out with the crap about free water from lebabnon against the wall too"
“AD/HD children can be gifted and creative, they all have special talents that can and should be appreciated by society. At times, these children are also extremely energetic and need help channeling that energy in appropriate directions.(bring back real national service get them to do some chores round the house and we will see how hyper they are _ Many also need extra encouragement and support when it comes to academics and activities that require organization and concentration.(no shit if their friends are all on msn and life revolves around halo 3 _ This is particularly true when the activities are not particularly interesting or exciting, like chores or homework”, said Chrysostomou.(need o say more ...kick them them round the house ,
the solutions really is that the parents needed to stay fit some 20 years ago and avoid burgers and bad diets, but like most modern western cultures we have weened our children on tv diets ,tv playstation cultures ,mum and dad are too busy working to pay off credit cards to buy them playstations etc ,mother fuckers cant read a book nor run a mile ,also the modern trend not to slap our children is to blame i think ,said smart guy ORANOS 64 ,A 37 EX IT SOLUTIONS CONSULTANT AND FITNESS CONSULTANT /ASSKICKER ...
