President Papadopoulos to pay an official visit to London

London, Apr 12 (CNA)- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has been invited by British Premier Tony Blair for an official visit to London later this year, British Minister for Europe Peter Hain has said.

Speaking to CNA, Hain said he was delighted ''to announce that President Papadopoulos has been invited to Britain for an official visit later this year to discuss, on behalf of the Cyprus government, his own views towards promoting peace and settlement on the island''.

Thats assuming he is still at number 10! What cheek of Mr Blair to announce state visits when there is a looming election. Perhaps Labour will be rigging the postal votes. Expect the Royal Mail to be suddenly flooded with millions of postal votes in the run up to May 5th! :wink:

Yeah right...so Tony Blair and Jack Straw can tell the Papadopolous to accept the current Annan Plan or face pressure on allowing the Tymbou airport to open up. Whats funny is, the Labour government wont push for this officially because they have said that it would be breaking international law.

Tony Blair is very lucky that there is no real charismatic leader of the major opposition parties.

Could it be that there is a perceived fear of tactical voting by a large number of Greek Cypriots in Britain in response to the current UK Governments apparent slow but sure shift in loyalties, or is that just too cynical to contemplate.
