What went on between the 20/7 and 14/8 1974?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Following a military coup against Makarios , organised by the Greek ( mainland ) Junta , as a result of Makarios request that the Greek Military Officers whom he suspected of planning against him and regarded them as law unto themselves , leave Cyprus , the Greek Military Junta reacted by organising the coup against Makarios .
Let me also state that there was NO CONFLICT between T/Cs and G/Cs up to that time.
Turkey interpreted the coup and the subsequent events , ie the appointment of Samson as the "President" of Cyprus , as leading to ENOSIS with Greece. It invaded Cyprus unilaterally while at the same time achieving its aim of partition based on the Attila Plan.
It is sad that our people have suffered and thousands lost their lives as a direct result of these two deadly cancers afflicting our island. TURKEY AND GREECE .
If only the people of Cyprus were to re assess their ethnicity , the T/Cs would see that they are firstly Cypriots and the brothers and sisters of the G/Cs , alas the bloody flags and the motherland bullshit wont let them.Have they ever wondered how we , the Cypriots feel about being told that Cyprus IS NOT our Motherland but Greece and Turkey , piss up on them , are !!
Turkey invaded Cyprus , the UN along with the entire International community condemned this action and called it an invasion of a sovereign country.

If I was to ask a question I really don't know the details of the talks between both sides during this time and I don't understand the situation on the island between these dates. What for example brought on the second phase of the intervention? What was going on before the second phase?

Miltiades, I can understand your thoughts. But in my opinion I think we should all learn to live with the motherland bullshit it's the only way it can be overcome . No one can expect everything to go on just fine and that we are just all feel Cypriot and nothing else. I think that "Cypriotness" will become evident once everyone respects each other Armenian, Greek, Turkish, Maronite and in the future Philipino , Romanian , British..........

yeah well the only obstacle to that umit is your community. we have someone on the forum saying they would rather become a province of Turkey than seek a fair solution of the Cypro, so we aint gonna reach that point any time soon and you ain't gonna become a province of Turkey either.

.....At the time of the Greek engineered coup against President Makarios, and the appointment of Nicos Sampson as the new president, as Miltiades said, did instil the fear into the TCs and Turkey that Enosis would be declared. The reaction of Turkey and the TCs was greatly underestimated. Had anybody else apart from N. Sampson been appointed as president, I believe Enosis would have been proclaimed. Hoever I think that this would have led to a three way civil war. I only say this as I believe that a significant number of GCs were against Enosis.(This is at least what we are led to believe).
