My Monthly living costs.
No mortgage...
Council Tax: £260.00
Water rates: £40.00
Electric:£140.00
Heating oil:£130
Food and essentials:£580.00
Eating out:£400.
Petrol:£100
Train travel:£280.00
School bus:£60.00
School Fees:£680.00
These are basic living costs for my family.2 adults one 12 year old.

mortgage - 427.82
Electricity Bill - 226.34 :shock:
Water bill - 34
Food shopping - 150
cleaning materials - 50
Internet - 82.02
Mobile phone - 54.56
Going out - 200

Alot of money there for somebody that lives alone on a fairly low income :(

Glad I'm not over there now. I live here on what you spend on "eating out"!

What exactly is "council tax" ? I thought you paid council tax only once a year

Council Tax is the annual community charge that is levied to every house and can be paid on a monthly basis.
It is divided into about 5 bands I think and even the cheapest can work out at a very expensive sum. There are discounts available for single households and people receiving benefit and the elderly etc. but the charge is a constant thorn in the flesh of every Brit resident and usually increases every year beyond the rate of inflation.

Thanks for the reply bucks, but 3000 squid CT a year seems very steep. CT in the north was very silly in the past you paid something like 8 squid a year and it was charged on the basis of how big your house was. Last year they increased it to over 200 squid for a 200 square meter house.

.... where you some kind of civil servant, accountant or something exciting along those lines, perhaps? :?
