oh wait, that was an expat.
sorry. :D

No need to apologise ... these things have a way of getting passed on.

The expat may have been influenced by the positive Cypriot Zeitgeist. :D

Or...........something to do the nice weather? Remember what Celia Johnson said in Brief Encounter? something like " I think we would all be so much nicer to each other if we lived in a warm country" But seriously though - people DO seem to be nicer to each other in Cyprus. Why, only last year, I told a rather tipsy English lady her skirt was tucked into her knickers.............In England I would have just laughed!!! But now I think : There but for the grace of God.............

Yes tess ... I really believe the weather is a major factor.

I've gone all gooey now you've reminded me of my favourite film of all time .... maybe a trip to the video-shop and a bottle of wine tonight ...

I have visited the station where 'Brief Encounter' was filmed - somewhere near Preston I believe?
Only one bottle??

I like the way Cypriots will point you in the right direction for something you need that they do not sell - and I don't care if it is their Uncle George's great Aunt's distant cousin who sells it - so long as they have it!
Even better when they take you there :D :D

Still on the subject of videos ....

Our DVD player doesn't play all the versions of DVDs and the nice man at the video hire shop told me to bring it in for him to convert. When I enquired how much he said, "No charge".

We still hire videos, but play them on the laptop, so he wasn't offering to increase his rentals to us .... just seemed to be out of helpfulness ...

Maybe it's about having time, and willing to help out, knowing that one day that person could help you out too.

I suppose this is the sort of thing the Inland Revenue stamped out years ago in the UK ....

Bubbles,
Brief Ecounter the railway station scene was filmed at Carnforth,30 miles south of where I live.
Little has changed, still the steam trains around the back..
By the way I am NOT a train spotter.

It's comforting to hear some of the old ways still abound in the lawless north ....

I never lock my car in Cyprus ... but that's a matter of practicalities since I was told car thefts are zero due to the fact that no one would get far without being spotted. :)

GR: Do you have an ashtray?

Girl: Err, no!

GR: But what about those little alluminium ones you use to have?

Girl:  Yes! I am from Romania.

GR: Right… thanks. :?

Ok, heres one from me too!

The other day i was about to set out to work when i noticed i had a flat. As my back was playing up I couldn't do the necessary, so I walked across to the local tire place, gave the guy my key and told him to sort it.

Came back an hour or so later, tire fixed, how much i said to him, ah don't worry about it, have it on me.

I was so proud to be greek then. Bless the fella.
