The expat may have been influenced by the positive Cypriot Zeitgeist.

Remember what Celia Johnson said in Brief Encounter? something like " I think we would all be so much nicer to each other if we lived in a warm country" But seriously though - people DO seem to be nicer to each other in Cyprus. Why, only last year, I told a rather tipsy English lady her skirt was tucked into her knickers.............In England I would have just laughed!!! But now I think : There but for the grace of God.............
