Out of the last FIVE locked threads, FOUR have DT. as the last poster, so I suggest that if you do not want your thread locked ... make sure you quickly post after DT. .....

Just a free tip .... :D

Hi Deniz

Yes, I am very loveable!

Now about 'why are threads locked?' People will appreciate that Admin and I cannot spend all of our time Moderating the Forum - ideally it should be self-moderating - so it is often the case that when we moderate we are faced with many threads, several of which could have grown several pages since they were last reviewed.

If we come across a posting which is considered inappropriate, it is deleted. Somone asked: 'why delete posts?'. The answer is twofold: they might be offensive to one or more Forum member and, secondly, if they are not deleted, other members may be led to believe that such posts are acceptable.

Threads are locked when it becomes clear that they have run their natural course and are slipping into slanging matches, which do not take the Topic forward in any manner.

No two people - even Admin and myself - will apply identical standards to such judgements and what would be regarded as acceptable to one member would not be to another. So, the best the Moderator can do is to apply a general objective of: 'what is best for the Forum?' - a complex mix of allowing 'free and robust speech' yet maintaining a standard of behaviour that will encourage new members to 'post without fear'.

You may not always agree with our actions, but please believe that Admin and I try our best for the Forum.

Thank you,

Lana

Thank you the very 'loveable' Lana, for your response.

In general I do agree with you. What some of the forumers may be interested in is what particular 'expression' had caused the 'offence', which got ye topic loced. This might prevent further sbuse.

Perhaps your 'Rules and Regulations' should be adhered to more strictly. Then ofcourse, what is the difference of friendly banter and abuse, which is sometimes difficult to differentiate.

Anyway, try and have a lovely weekend listening to the Cicadas.

'Twas not I who locked the thread (Bitter Lemons), although I am Mod for a number of sections, Mr Admin oversees all of the Forum.

Maybe there had been some posts which have now been deleted, which caused offence.

Loveable Lana

I've just had another look at the "Bitter Lemons" thread and there are no posts missing ....

It was providing quite a lot of amusement, with no one attacking anyone and I must say it remains one of the most surprising locks ... perhaps it was a mistake? :?

I am not arguing, (just curious and perplexed) ... but the most powerful tool Admin possess is surely to delete posts or transfer threads to another section.

Locking them prevents the free-flow once a thread gains a following and "warmed up" threads can be the most interesting.

Besides another could be opened in its place to carry on, but it takes time to gain an "atmosphere".

Again, I hasten to add I am not complaining, just heightened curiosity and interested in analysing decision making, and thread growth and evolution.

I wholeheartedly support the deletion of offending posts however.

Deniz ... Chimera, phoenix and Boumboulina (+ me) stated their messages without attacking individuals, only their bigoted opinions.

However posters have a tendency to go off the rails responding to me because of my no-nonsense style pointing out absurdities which leads to further fueling from those who take themselves too seriously ...

But you don't .... and that's all that matters to me :D x

Oracle MOU

My above message was an indication that the of Oracle is more acceptable than Phoenix. Do I need to be more direct to the point. Now you are qualified to join the Cypriot CID, I expected you to have figured it out.
