For What Things You Would Complain About?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

by nationalistic you mean a separate turkish-cypriot state or a united cypriot state?

A united Cyprus based on bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, political equality of two communities, guarantorship of Turkey, necessary restrictions on freedom of movement until TCs politically, economically, culturally, ethnically and psychologically feel themselves safe and voluntarily accept gradually lifting the restrictions.

see the use of the word UNTIL changes alot. if this "until" is formally written on paper then this is fine. of course this "until" includes certain restrictions. not complete restrictions.

for example people who can immediately move back are those whose houses are occupied by settlers. also since settlers are spread out mostly around the north, most GCs wont have an incentive to return since they will be among TCs and thus will forfeit this right and reduce the possible return of GCs into the north.

Yes, the settlers who will choose to take the compensation and leave Cyprus; will abandon the GC properties they use.

Other settlers who may wish to stay should be rehoused and rehabilitated before evacuating the GC properties they occupy.

I agree with you. The normalization of the relations of TC-settlers took some 10 years. The normalization of the relations of GC-settlers would take some 15 years I guess. Though as I previously stated the settlers who came 30 or 20 years ago and their Cyprus born children all embraced the TC way of life, TC way of thinking, traditional TC culture and current trends in TC community. They mostly lined up with existing political parties of TCs. Only a TC who live in North can still distinguish a settler from a native TC. The settlers who were little kids when their families came to Cyprus and the Cyprus born children of settlers are almost impossible to be distinguished from a native TC.

Yes. I'm a descendent of an Ottoman settler who settled down to Cyprus some 400 years ago. Though I might be a descendent of a a converted Maronite or Greek. Even it is said that my Grand Grandma was a converted Egyptian and Grand grand grandpa was a converted Persian.

Brother you are a typical Cypriot re! :D

Insan, the numbers you are indicating are very much inflated.Perhaps they include 5th and 6th generation expats. I heard there are about as many expats as there are Cypriots living here.

Yes we would prefer the real TCs instead of the settlers even if they are more nationalistic. The GCs who live abroad are more nationalistic by the way.
Four reasons:
economically they stand much much better.
Second they own land and are legal residents.
The cannot be manipulated easily by Turkey after a solution
After coming back to Cyprus they behave more like Europeans than Cypriots.
The nationalistic ideology will be irrelevant after a solution.

Most active members here are not living in Cyprus. You included. Ask them what are their chances to return. Not even 10%! Even for you personally I think its 50-50

MicAtCyp,

Most of the TCs would like to return Cyprus. Especially the ones who are over 40. Return of TC emigrants depends on a solution. First of all if there has been no embargos in last 30 years, %80 of the TCs wouldn't migrate abroad and %80 of the pre-74 migrants would return.

After a solution North Cyprus will be a investment heaven. Most of the capital owner TC emigrants who live abroad will rush to North Cyprus. when I was in London, every TC I talked to told me the same thing "we are working like a crazy donkey in order to earn lots of money and return to Cyprus."

All we need is a solution.

As for me to return Cyprus; first of all if North Cyprus hasn't been under embargos, I would easily return long ago. I know that overwhelming majority of Cypriots want to return. I've already talked to most of them and read many news articles about their opinions concerning returning to Cyprus.
