Why can't they just build more solar powered desalination plants????????????

Money probably. Isn't it incredibly expensive to build and run them?

Surely it can't be more expensive than filling tankers with water and transporting it from another country

Investment for the future ? where is the outlook,still blinkered I'm afraid.Now Lebannon have said they have little water, (which we all knew,apart from the Cypriot Government) maybe they will have to look at using expensive alternatives.
