As for variety and freshness - I have very rarely been disapointed. Pides, kleftico, kebaps etc etc plenty to choose from - kolokas with chicken, molohiya - maybe you are eating out in the wrong areas!!!

ps - I have eaten in the troodos area, and enjoyed a fabulous meal of home made crusty bread and soup, followed by a meat stew with whole cyprus potatoes - shame you were so disapointed!

Tessintrnc,
I missed that place! Can you get the name for me for when I visit again?

Oh my goodness - I really haven't a clue, the lunch - which also included the roughest wine I have ever drunk was part of a day trip with one of those jeep safaris - sorry

You should go to a little dive patronised mainly by the locals called Julios' Taverna near the Katholiki church in Limassol. Just ask for the Cyprus special dish of the day. He has something new every day. It is always excellent and very cheap as well. I would never tire of his fasoules yagni even if I had it every day, let alone the special.

Thanks Tim,
Don't seem to find this kind of place in the Paphos area. I do go to a place in Paphos amrket very similar but they seem pretty few & far between.
Will make a note next time I go to Limassol. :D

See Buck..had you posted that you can't find a decent place to eat cause you don't know any you would of had people helping you out quicker by sugegsting nice places.

Instead you decided to declare to the world that you're bored with the Cypriot cuisine and that its not mediterranean enough....whatever that means.

For an additional 1 Euro, you could have had an erect salad by having some grated Viagra on it.

Be sure to mention this to your waiter/waitress next time you get a limp food. :D

Cypriot Cuisine No Good!!!

Now I've heard it all

For Gods Sake get out a bit.....

Probably one of the freshest healthiest and varied cuisines in Europe and doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

Ask the locals where they eat, stay away from the main tourist areas and you will eat like a king

I have a dilemma that others may have experienced. Someone came over from the old country a few days ago and gave us a jar of ambeloboulia (vine birds in English I think?).

The jar has been sitting, unopened, in our fridge for the past couple of weeks.

What should we do?

'Black cap' in English. Most likely its pickled in vinegar. Yuck. I only eat them freshly cooked. Present the jar to a real Cypriot, they will be very grateful.

crack open a bottle of Zivana and start munching away. Cholesterol sufferers beware.
